Materials
- 1 Size 5 chunky yarn in white
- 1 Light pink yarn for cheeks
- 1 Black yarn for mouth
- 12mm Safety eyes
- Tapestry needle
- 7mm hook
- 5mm crochet hook
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- mr = Magic ring
- ch = Chain
- sc = Single crochet
Notes
Use chunky yarn for the bag; worsted weight for smaller or super chunky for a larger bag. Any yarn type works. Sized for a phone and small items, not a large purse. For a firmer dumpling purse, go down in hook size or line the bag. To achieve a soup-like dumpling with a frilly top, continue making rounds after the last round.
Instructions
Dumpling Bag
For this pattern, we will be working in rounds.
Rounds 1-26
- Round 1: Using white chunky yarn and the 7mm hook, make a mr and then sc x6 into the mr. (6)
- Round 2: Inc in every sc. (12)
- Round 3: Inc, sc, then repeat until end of round (18)
- Round 4: Inc, sc x2, then repeat until end of round (24)
- Round 5: Inc, sc x3, then repeat until end of round (30)
- Round 6: Inc, sc x4, then repeat until end of round (36)
- Round 7: Inc, sc x5, then repeat until end of round (42)
- Round 8: Inc, sc x6, then repeat until end of round (48)
- Round 9: Inc, sc x7, then repeat until end of round (54)
- Rounds 10-26: Sc in every stitch (54)
Round 27
Ch x2 + skip 2 stitches, then sc into the following stitch. Repeat for the rest of the round and slip stitch to the beginning of the round. Fasten off the yarn.
Drawstring
Row 1: Using the yarn and the 5mm hook, ch x170-200 (depending on the length you want).
Weave the drawstring in between the holes made at the top of the bag. Once that is done, sew the drawstring ends together so it becomes one loop.
Cheeks
Round 1: Using white light pink yarn and the 5mm hook, make a mr and then sc x6 into the mr. (6) Fasten off, but leave a long tail for sewing.
Finishing
Attach the safety eyes where you would like the face to be.
Then sew on the cheeks and embroider the mouth.
Weave in any loose ends.
Then if needed, make a lining for the bag (optional).
And tah-dah! Your crochet dumpling bag is completed!
