Once all 15 squares have been crocheted, assemble the squares as indicated in the Construction/Notes section above and then continue to add the border and strap (below).

Border and Strap

Follow the steps below to add the strap and border:

Flip the bag inside out and lay it flat.

Attach yarn to the top right corner of the bag in ch2sp with SS. CH1, SC in the same st (counts as the first 2 sts of round).

SC around the top of the bag (round 1 of border). Note: work 2SC in ch2sp of the opposite corner.

At the end of the round, SC in the first st of the round and SC across the first half of the bag only (stop at the opposite corner).

SC in the last sc of the first half of the bag and then CH 72. This will make a strap of 18″. To adjust strap length, add or subtract 4 chs for each inch.

Attach with SS to the first SC of the round.

Crochet across the first half of the bag again until you reach the strap; SC into each ch of the strap.

Work one more round of SC into the first half of the bag and strap, and then join to the beginning of the round with SS and fasten off.

Flip the bag over and attach yarn to the top right corner of the second half of the bag with SS.

SC in each st of the second half of the bag and opposite side of the strap for two rounds.

Fasten off, weave in all loose ends, and enjoy your new crochet tote bag!
