How to Knit a Stylish Bag with Cable and Criss-Cross Patterns

You'll Need:

Mixed content yarn;

Knitting needles 4;

Auxiliary needle;

Leather fasteners with grommets - 2 pcs;

Fabric for under part - 90 cm x 36 cm.

Used Patterns

Cable 1: transfer 2 sts to the auxiliary needle behind work, knit 2 together;

Cable 2: transfer 2 sts to the auxiliary needle in front of work, knit 2 together;

Criss-cross 1: transfer 2 sts to the auxiliary needle in front of work, 2 purls, make slipped sts as knit sts;

Criss-cross 2: transfer 2 sts to the auxiliary needle behind work, 2 knit sts, make slipped sts as purls.

Instructions

Front

Cast on 74 sts and knit in the following way:

1st row: 2 purls, * 2 knit sts, 2 purls*; repeat from * to * to end of row;

2nd row: purl.

Repeat these 2 rows to 30 cm height from the beginning. Finish with a row of purls. Bind off the sts.

Back and Flaps

Cast on 74 sts and knit in the following way:

1st, 3rd, 5th rows: 2 purls, * 2 knit sts, 2 purls*; repeat from * to * to end of row;

2nd and all the even rows: purl;

7th row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, cable 1, 2 purls, cable 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts*; repeat from * to * to the last 2 sts, 2 purls;

9th row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, criss-cross 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, criss-cross 1, 2 purls, 2 knit sts*;

11th row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, cable 1, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, cable 2, 2 knit sts*;

13th row: * 2 purls, criss-cross 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, cable 1*;

15th, 17th, and 19th rows: as 1st row;

21st row: * 2 purls, cable 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, cable 1*;

23rd row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, criss-cross 1, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, criss-cross 2, 2 knit sts*;

25th row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, cable 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, cable 1, 2 purls, 2 knit sts*;

27th row: * 2 purls, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts, criss-cross 1, 2 purls, criss-cross 2, 2 knit sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts*;

28th row: purl.

Repeat from 1st to 28th rows to make 6 full pattern repeats and do the 1st-2nd rows one more time. Bind off the sts.

Sides and Handles

Cast on 10 sts and knit according to the pattern of the front part to 185 cm long. Bind off the sts.

Assembly

Sew side part to the front part, then to the back part.

The strap should be 98 cm long. Sew the fasteners.

Sew the backing.
