Size and Measurements

Size: 3-5 years

Head Circumference: from 40 to 50 cm

Length: from bottom to top: 16 cm

You'll Need

  • 1 skein of cotton or flax yarn
  • Knitting needles size 2.5 and 3

Used Techniques

  • Garter stitch
  • Stockinette stitch
  • Relief ornament as per the given scheme

Instructions

Before you start working, create a sample of the relief ornament sized 10 x 10 cm, to accurately calculate the stitch control and the number of setup rows.

Cast on 91 stitches using knitting needles size 3, and work 4 rows in garter stitch. This section will serve as the edge piping for the hat.

Next, switch to knitting needles size 2.5 and begin knitting your hat, repeating rows 1 to 15 a total of 3 times.

After completing the body of the hat, begin reducing the stitch count. To do this, knit the 3 central stitches of each pattern together, targeting the 4th, 5th, and 6th stitches.

As you approach the final row, knit 2 stitches together until the end, reducing the stitch count by half. Transfer all remaining stitches to a crochet hook, cut the yarn, leaving a 30 cm end. Using the crochet hook, draw the yarn through all remaining stitches and tighten securely.

Lastly, make a side seam for the hat using the yarn end.
