Complete Guide to Crocheting a Stylish Cowl and Beret with Violet Yarn

Sizes

Cowl: 18 x 170 cm;

Head circumference of the beret: 56-58 cm.

Materials You'll Need

  • 400 g of violet yarn Schachenmayr Original Bravo Mezzo (100% polyacryl, 165m/100g);
  • Crochet hook 7.

Stitching Instructions

Placket Ornament

Make single crochets, inserting your hook only through back loops of the previous row stitches.

Main Ornament

Make a chain with an even number of stitches and crochet a circular row.

Row Instructions

1st Row: 3 chain stitches increase, 1 double crochet through the back loop of each chain stitch of the initial chain, finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch increase;

2nd Row: 3 chain stitches increase, * 1 half treble crochet through the front loop in 2 chain stitches of the initial chain, crochet these 2 treble crochets together, slip 1 single crochet of the previous row; repeat from *, finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch increase;

3rd Row: 3 chain stitches increase, * make 1 half treble crochet in the base of double crochet: once before double crochet, once after double crochet (to make it, insert your hook under short lateral yarn and slip stitch), then crochet these 2 treble crochets together; make 1 double crochet in the 2 treble crochets of the previous row that were crocheted together; repeat from *, finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch increase.

Make 1st and 2nd rows once, then repeat the 3rd row.

Stitch Control

6-7 stitches and 7-8 rows = 10 x 4.5 cm.

Cowl Instructions

Make a chain of 110 chain stitches very loosely, circle it with 1 slip stitch and crochet with the main ornament = 55 groups of double crochets. In 13 rows, make 1 circular row with slip stitch very loosely and finish your work.

Beret Instructions

Make a chain of 50 chain stitches and circle it with 1 slip stitch, crochet with the placket ornament. In 4.5 cm = 7 rows from the set-up edge, crochet with the main ornament, starting with the 2nd row: 2 treble crochets together in front half stitches of the 1st and 2nd single crochets of the placket's last row, make double crochet, which is located between them, through back half loop of the 2nd single crochet = 25 groups of treble crochets. Then constantly repeat the 3rd row of the main ornament. In 12 rows of the main ornament, start making decreases. To make them, you should consistently slip groups of treble crochets, i.e., make 1 group of treble crochets of the previous row from double crochet from both sides and make 1 double crochet in the next double crochet. Finish your work in 3 rows.
