Materials

  • Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: 75-100 yards. Yarn used in the samples: Peaches & Creme Stripey in Energetic Pink and Quiet Dahlia
  • Crochet Hook: G (4.25-4.5mm)
  • Notions: Yarn needle
  • Optional: Measuring tape, scissors

Gauge: Not needed for this project.

Tips – Please Read Before You Begin the Project

  • The first stitch of each row is worked into the same stitch as the turning chain.
  • Numbers at the beginning of each line may refer to steps and not indicate number of rows.
  • Stitch count remains the same unless noted at end of row/round.

Directions

  1. With a G hook and cotton yarn, ch 33, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (32sts)
  2. Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st, *sk 1, 2hdc in next st*, repeat until 1 st remains, hdc in the last st.
  3. Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st, 2hdc between each pair from the previous row, hdc in last st.
  4. Tip: Think of each 2hdc from the previous row as a V. Work the 2hdc in the middle of the V.
  5. Repeat the previous step 12 more times.
  6. Ch 1, turn, hdc in the same st and in each st to end of row. (32sts)

At this point, choose between the soap saver bag and pouf options.

Soap Saver Bag

Handle: After the last row, ch 61, sl st in the 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Finish off, leaving a long yarn tail to sew the edges together.

Assembly: Weave the loose end of the chain in and out of the last row, over one post and under the next, to the end of the row.

Insert the yarn tail in a yarn needle. Fold the rectangle in half. Sew the side and bottom edge together. Turn the bag inside out.

Pouf Assembly

After the rectangle is complete, finish off, leaving a long tail for sewing the pouf.

Use a yarn needle to weave the yarn tail in and out of the sts across the last row. Pull the yarn to cinch the top row into a circle. Tie the yarn to the row to hold the circle.

Line up the edges of the rectangle and sew the edges together.

Weave the yarn tail in and out of the sts across the bottom/beginning row.

Turn the piece inside out. Pull the yarn tail to cinch the bottom edge together. Secure the yarn and weave in the ends.
