How to Knit Colorful Booties with Lace

You’ll Need:

Soft cotton yarn of several colors: blue, white, and red (as in this tutorial, but you can choose other colors).

Knitting needles (depending on the chosen yarn).

Lace.

Instructions

Cast on 38 sts with white yarn. Transfer the brim to another needle.

Row Instructions

1st row: knit;

2nd row: 1 knit st, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 2 knit sts, drop the yarn, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 1 knit st;

3rd row: knit;

4th row: 2 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 4 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 2 knit sts;

5th, 7th and 9th rows: as the 1st row;

6th row: 3 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 6 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 3 knit sts;

8th row: 4 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 8 knit sts, yarn over, 17 knit sts, yarn over, 4 knit sts;

Now, the total quantity of sts is 54. The sole for your bootie is ready.

Continuing the Pattern

10th row: purl;

11th row: knit;

12th row: the same as 10th row;

13th row: knit;

14th-17th rows: the same as 13th row;

18th-19th rows: attach red yarn, don't cut the white yarn, all knit sts;

20th-23rd rows: knit with white yarn, cut the red yarn.

Knit the Front Part

Then, we'll knit the front part of your work. Knit half of the sts with knit sts, attach red yarn. In the center of your work, add 2 more sts. Turn your work, slip 1 st, knit 4 sts. Repeat these actions one more time: slip 1, knit 3 sts to the marker and 3 knit sts after it. With such knitting, you'll add 1 st in each row until there are 12 sts left. The semi should have a triangle shape.

Turn your work and make 5 rows with purls if it's the wrong side, or with knit sts if it's the right side. Knit the 12th st together with the side link.

Finishing Touches

Attach blue yarn and knit 6 rows with it. Don't cut the white yarn; you'll use it for fastening the tab. For the tab, knit 12 sts to the needed height. Then bind off the sts and fasten it with white yarn.

Knit the Sides

Then, knit the sides of your booties. There should be 15 sts on each of your needles.

Add 4 sts from each side. There should be 38 sts, which are knitted as a whole cloth. Make 4 rows with knit sts, then make decreases. Knit the first and last two elements together.

Booties are knitted to the height of the tab; then bind off all the sts. Fasten the blue part with white yarn and sew the sole. Make the second bootie in analogy with the first one. Insert the laces.
