How to Knit a Cozy Cardigan with Pockets and Raglan Design

You’ll Need:

600 (650) 700g of beige yarn (50% wool, 40% polyamide, 10% Alpaca; 90m/50g);

100g of brown yarn (74% mohair, 17% wool, 9% polyamide; 50m/50g);

Knitting needles 7 and 8;

Beige button.

Size:

L (XXL) XXXXL.

Used Patterns

Pearl Pattern:

1 knit stitch, 1 purl stitch by turn, replace the ornament to 1 stitch in every right side row.

Marked Decreases:

From the right side: 1 selvedge stitch, 1 knit stitch, knit 2 together; from the left side – knit 2 together with left decline, 1 knit stitch, 1 selvedge stitch.

Stitches Control:

Pearl pattern: 14 stitches x 19.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 80 (88) 96 stitches with knitting needles 7 and beige yarn, make 8 cm with garter stitch, starting from the wrong side row. Then, work with the pearl pattern. After 53.5 cm = 104 rows, bind off 3 stitches x 1 from both sides for raglan, then apply marked decreases: 1 stitch x 24 (27) 30 in every 2^nd row. In 25.5 cm = 50 rows (28.5 cm = 56 rows) 31.5 cm = 62 rows (raglan), bind off 26 (28) 30 stitches.

Left Front

Work 8 cm with garter stitch on 45 (49) 53 stitches with beige yarn and knitting needles 7. In 28.5 cm = 56 rows, work with garter stitch for the pocket on 9^th-29^th (11^th-31^st) 13^th-33^rd stitches, while working with pearl pattern on the stitches from the outer side. In 6 cm, bind off the stitches, leaving the rest stitches.

For the pocket, cast on 21 stitches and work with stockinette stitch for 15 cm. Transfer the stitches to the knitting needles between the previously left stitches and work with pearl pattern on all 45 (49) 53 stitches.

Make raglan chamfers on the opposite side also from the back side. Decrease 1 x 1 stitch during the 1^st decrease for chamfers, 1 stitch x 8 in every 4^th row, and 1 stitch x 7 (8) 9 in every 2^nd row. After 25.5 cm = 50 rows (28.5 cm = 56 rows) 31.5 cm = 62 rows, bind off the last 2 stitches.

Right Front

Make in symmetry to the left front, don’t forget to make a button-hole: bind off 5-7 stitches at 5 cm lower from the neck-hole, and cast on these stitches in the next row.

Sleeves

Cast on 36 (40) 44 stitches with beige yarn and knitting needles 7 and make a placket similar to the back, after that, work with the pearl pattern.

For chamfers, increase 1 stitch x 3 in every 4^th row from both sides, 1 stitch x 10 (1 stitch x 14 in every 4^th row and 1 stitch x 1 in every 2^nd row) and 1 stitch x 12 in every 4^th row and 1 stitch x 5 in every 5^th row, including these stitches in the pattern = 62 (70) 78 stitches.

In 32 cm = 62 rows from the placket, make chamfers in the same way as for the back. In 25.5 cm = 50 rows (28.5 cm = 56 rows) 31.5 cm = 62 rows, bind off 8 (10) 12 stitches.

Assembly

Sew the pockets to the wrong side of the sides. Make all the seams. Sew the button.

Collar

Cast on 17 stitches with knitting needles 8 and brown yarn and work with garter stitch. In 80 (90) 100 cm, bind off all the stitches and sew the detail to the cardigan.
