Create a whimsical, huggable Crochet Cocktail Koala Amigurumi — a playful amigurumi koala tucked into a crocheted cocktail cup with optional cherries, a straw, and a hibiscus flower. This pattern includes a full materials list, abbreviations, step‑by‑step rounds for the cup, koala head and limbs, several fun toppings, and clear assembly notes so you can customize your koala’s look.

Whether you want a small decorative piece, a cheerful gift, or a fun stash‑busting project, this pattern walks you through each component so you can mix and match yarns and embellishments to suit your style.

Materials

  • Size 6 (super bulky) polyester yarn (examples: baby snuggle or a chunky yarn). You can use any thickness yarn if you adjust hook size accordingly.
  • Worsted weight yarn (used for embellishments; velvet worsted weight recommended).
  • 20 mm safety eyes.
  • Polyester fiber fill.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • 6.5 mm and 4.00 mm crochet hooks.
  • Scissors and sewing pins.
  • Optional: cocktail umbrellas, fabric glue for attaching small decorations.

Abbreviations

  • Ch: Chain
  • Sc: Single crochet
  • Inc: Increase (2 single crochets in one stitch)
  • Dec: Decrease
  • Dc: Double crochet
  • BLO: Back loop only
  • * * Repeat

Quick tips before you start

  • Use a hook size appropriate for your yarn to achieve a neat, dense fabric for stuffing. The pattern lists the hook sizes used.
  • Stuff firmly but evenly so the cup holds its shape and the koala head sits nicely in the top opening.
  • Embellishments are optional — make as many or as few as you like and secure small pieces with sewing or fabric glue.

Cocktail Koala Embellishments

I use worsted weight velvet yarn and a 4.00 mm hook for the embellishments, but any worsted weight yarn will work. Embellishments are optional — mix and match cherries, flowers, pineapples, leaves, and straws to customize your koala.

Straw

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring

Cherry

Hibiscus Flower

Starting with yellow: 5 sc magic circle. Finish off. With pink yarn attach to any stitch in the yellow circle. Ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3, and sl st in same stitch. Repeat for each of the 5 stitches to create 5 petals. Finish off and leave tail for sewing.

Pineapple

Work in rows using a darker yellow than the cup. Row styling (example):

  • Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring.
  • Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch, ch 1 and turn (12)
  • Color change to mustard yellow or green.
  • Round 3: *1 sc, inc* the rest of the row (18)
  • Finish off and leave tail for sewing.

Pineapple Leaf

Using green yarn.

  • Round 1: sc 4 in magic ring
  • Round 2: *sc, inc* around (6)
  • Round 3: sc around (6)
  • Round 4: *2 sc, inc* around (8)
  • Round 5: sc around (8)
  • Round 6: *3 sc, inc* around (10)
  • Round 7: sc around (10)

Assembly

Place the 20 mm safety eyes about 6–7 stitches apart between rows 7 & 8 of the head. Stuff the head and sew it onto the drink, leaving about 4–5 rows of space in the front so the koala sits nicely. Sew the nose between the eyes and attach the ears so they sit around rows 5–8. Sew or glue the inner ear into the gray outer ear. Sew the arms in place and attach embellishments (cherry, straw, flower, pineapple leaf) as desired. Add a cocktail umbrella for a finishing touch. To make a chunkier cup, add extra rows as long as the last row before adding the white has 48 stitches.

Enjoy customizing your Crochet Cocktail Koala Amigurumi — have fun with colors and toppings to create a unique little character!
