Pattern Stitches

Beginning Popcorn (beg pc)

Ch 3, 3 dc in same space, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of beg ch-3, pick up dropped loop, draw through.

Popcorn (pc)

4 dc in sp indicated; drop lp from hook, insert hook in first dc made, draw dropped lp through.

Instructions

Motif (make a total of 96, 8 of each color)

With scrap color, ch 4; join to form ring.

Round 1 (RS)

Ch 3 (counts as a dc on this and following rnds), 2 dc in ring; ch 2, [3 dc in ring, ch 2] 3 times; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (12 dc)

Round 2

Sl st in next dc, beg pc (see Pattern Stitches) in same dc; *ch 2, sk next dc, in next ch-2 sp work [pc (see Pattern Stitches), ch 2, pc]-corner made; ch 2, sk next dc, pc in next dc; rep from * twice more; ch 2, sk next dc, in next ch-2 sp work [pc, ch 2, pc]-corner made; ch 2, sk next dc; join in beg pc. (12 pc)

Round 3

Sl st in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp; *sk next pc, in next corner ch-2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc)-corner made; sk next pc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp; sk next pc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp, rep from * twice more; sk next pc, in next corner ch-2 sp work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc)-corner made; sk next pc, 3 dc in next ch-2 sp; sk next pc; join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3.

Round 4

Assembly

Hold 2 Motifs with WS tog; with navy make slip knot on hook and join with sc in corner ch-2 sps of both Motifs; sc in each sc to next corner ch-2 sp; sc in next corner ch-2 sp. Do NOT fasten off. Hold next 2 Motifs tog and sc across in same manner. Join 8 rows of 12 motifs in random order. Fasten off at the end of each row or column.

Edging

Hold afghan with RS facing you and 1 short end at top; with navy, make slip knot on hook and join with sc in ch-2 sp in upper right-hand corner.
