Notes

These crochet flower squares are made in only 3 rounds.

For the following written instructions, I’m using 3 colors, but you can use 2 colors or only 1 color. You can change color however you want, every round, every other round, it’s up to you.

Stitches Used & Code (US Term)

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sp = space
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • REP = repeat
  • YO = yarn over hook
  • cl = cluster stitch: *YO insert hook into the st, YO pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops on hook* REP from *TO* 3 more times (5 loops on hook), YO pull through all loops on hook, ch 1.
  • beg cl = beginning cluster stitch: ch 3, *YO insert hook into same st, YO pull up a loop, YO pull through 2 loops on hook* REP from *TO* 2 more times (4 loops on hook), YO pull through all loops on hook, ch 1.

The Crochet Flower Squares Instructions

Round 1 (Color A)

ch 8, sl st into the first ch that you did to form a circle, ch 4 (count as 1 dc and 1 ch sp), *1 dc into the same circle sp, ch 1* REP from *TO* 10 more times, sl st into the third ch that you did at the beginning, cut the yarn. Total of 12 dc and 12 ch 1 sp.

Round 2 (Color B)

Add new yarn into any ch sp you prefer, then make beg cl, ch 2, *cl into next ch sp, ch 2* REP from *TO* around, sl st into the top of the beg cl, cut the yarn. Total of 12 cl st and 12 ch 2 sp.

Round 3 (Color C)

Add new yarn into any ch sp you prefer, then make a sc, (5 dc, ch 5, 5 dc all into the next ch sp), *1 sc into the next ch sp, ch 5, 1 sc into the next ch sp, (5 dc, ch 5, 5 dc all into the next ch sp)* REP from *TO* 2 more times, end with 1 sc into the next ch sp, ch 5, sl st into the first sc that you did, cut the yarn and weave all the ends.

How to Join as You Go

To join the squares together, you’re going to crochet round 1 and round 2 exactly the same. For round 3, it is going to be the join as you go round. Read instructions below.

Join Round 3 (Color C)

Add new yarn into any ch sp you prefer, then make a sc, 5 dc into the next ch sp, ch 2, bring the finished square up and make sl st into the ch 5 sp at the corner of the finished square (make sure that the right side of both squares are facing up), ch 2, back to the unfinished square, make 5 dc into the same sp that you did the previous 5 dc, 1 sc into the next ch sp, ch 2, sl st into the next ch 5 sp on the finished square, ch 2, back to the unfinished square, make 1 sc into the next ch sp, 5 dc into the next ch sp, ch 2, sl st into the next ch 5 sp at the corner of the finished square, ch 2, back to the unfinished square, make 5 dc into the same sp that you did the previous 5 dc. *1 sc into the next ch sp, ch 5, 1 sc into the next ch sp, (5 dc, ch 5, 5 dc all into next ch sp)* REP from *TO* 1 more time, end with 1 sc into the next ch sp, ch 5, sl st into the first sc that you did, cut the yarn and weave all the ends.
