Materials Needed

I created this cute crochet bird with a hook and medium worsted yarn.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch

Creating the Bird Applique

Round 1

RND 1: ch 7, sc in the third chain from the hook, hdc in the next chain, dc in the next chain, tr in the next chain, 4 dc in the last ch, work on the opposite side, tr in the next stitch, dc in the next stitch, hdc in the next stitch, sc in the next stitch, sl st in the next stitch.

Round 2

RND 2: ch 3, dc in the same stitch, work 2 dc in each stitch around, sl st in the ch 3.

Round 3

RND 3: ch 4, sc in the 2nd chain from the hook, hdc in the next chain, dc in the next chain, sl st in the next stitch 6 stitches, sc in the next stitch, skip a stitch, work 10 dc in the next stitch.

Creating the Beak

Beak: at the last dc of the previous round, sl st with your new color, ch 2, sc in the same space.

Making the Eyes

Eyes: glue on your eyes or take yarn with your yarn and needle to make a dashed line to create an eye next to the beak.
