Cozy Sweater Knitting Instructions with Vario Yarn

You’ll Need:

450 (500) 550g of dark-red mélange Vario yarn (38% polyacryl, 25% alpaca, 25% merino wool, 12% polyamide; 145m/50g);

Straight and circular knitting needles 5.5 mm.

Wrong-side Pattern

In RS row – purls, in WS row – knit sts;

Main Pattern

The quantity of sts is multiple of 36 (40) 36 + 2 + 2 selvage sts.

Note: For size M, make extra 2 purls and 2 knit sts after the 18^th st (arrow on the scheme) in every pattern repeat = 40 sts for pattern repeat. Start with 1 selvage st, follow the pattern repeat, and finish with sts after the pattern repeat and 1 selvage st. Complete rows 1-104 once, then repeat rows 103-104 (= rib).

Rib in Straight Rows

* 2 purls, 2 knit sts*; repeat from * to *, finish with 2 purls. Make WS rows according to the pattern, in circular rows make 2 purls, 2 knit sts by turn.

Stitches Control

Main pattern: 26 sts x 25.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Rib: 17.5 sts x 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions:

Back

Cast on 76 (86) 106 sts and make 2 cm = 4 rows of the wrong-side pattern, increase 36 (38) 42 sts in the last row = 112 (124) 148 sts. Then, proceed with the main pattern. After the stated decreases in the pattern following the 101^st row, there will be 76 (88) 100 sts on knitting needles. At 53 cm = 132 rows (55.5 cm = 138 rows) 57.5 cm = 142 rows from the placket, bind off the central 16 (16) 20 sts for the neck-hole and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 3 sts, 1 x 2 sts, 2 x 1 st in every 2^nd row from inwards. At 57.5 cm = 142 rows (60 cm = 148 rows) 62 cm = 152 rows from the placket, bind off the remaining 23 (29) 33 sts of the shoulder.

Front

Make in the same way as the back, but for deeper neck-hole, at 50.5 cm = 126 rows (53 cm = 132 rows) 55 cm = 136 rows from the placket, bind off the central 12 (12) 16 sts and 1 x 3 sts, 2 x 2 sts, 2 x 1 st in every 2^nd row.

Sleeves

Cast on 44 (48) 52 sts and work with rib between selvage sts. At 20 cm = 46 rows from the set-up row, increase 1 st from both sides and 11 x 1 st in every 4^th and 6^th rows alternately according to the pattern = 68 (72) 76 sts. At 47 cm = 108 rows from the set-up row, bind off the sts.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. Cast on 100 (100) 108 sts along the neck-hole line with circular knitting needles for the collar and work with rib in circular rows. At 22 cm = 50 circle rows from the beginning of work, bind off the sts according to the pattern. Sew up the sleeves and complete side and sleeve seams.
