Knitting a Turquoise Cowl and Hat with Schachenmayr Yarn


You'll Need
400g of turquoise yarn Schachenmayr original Northern (100% polyacryl; 210m/100g);
Circle knitting needles 40 cm long;
Double pointed needles 4 and 4.5;
Auxiliary needle.
Size
Cowl: 22 x 150 cm
Hat, head circumference: 52-56 cm
Used Patterns
Rib: rotate 1 knit st, 1 purl.
Main ornament: knit according to the scheme with circular or straight and reverse rows.
Cowl: repeat from 3rd to 14th rows. For cowl, make 3 selvedge sts from both sides of the right side row: 1 knit st, slip 1 purl, yarn in front of work, 1 knit st; in wrong side rows: slip 1 purl, yarn in front of work, 1 knit st, slip 1 st, yarn in front of work. Stitches control for main ornament, using knitting needles 4.5: 20 sts and 24 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions
Hat
Cast on 80 sts on circle knitting needles 4 and knit 5 cm of circular rows with rib, begin your row with 1 purl. Turn to 4.5 knitting needles and knit with the main ornament, repeat the sts of the pattern 5 times. After the 1st row, there should be 100 sts left on the needles. In 22.5 cm from the 6th row of ornament, start to make decreases in the following way: 10 x 3 purls together = 80 sts. Then, continue knitting with stockinette stitch. In the next 2nd row, knit 26 x 2 knit sts together in every 2 sts, finishing with 2 knit sts = 54 sts. In the next 2nd row, knit 18 x 2 knit sts together in every 2 sts = 36 sts. In the next 2nd row, knit 12 x 2 knit sts together in every 2 sts = 24 sts. Then, knit 2 sts together until there are 6 sts left on the needles. Cut off the yarn, draw through the rest of the sts, tighten it.
Cowl
Cast on 59 sts and knit the 1st wrong side row in the following way: 3 selvedge sts, * 3 knit sts, 3 purls, 1 knit st, 3 purls; repeat from * 4 times, 3 knit sts, 3 selvedge sts. Then, continue with the main ornament in the following way: 3 selvedge sts, 2 x pattern from 20 sts, knit from 1st to 13th sts of pattern, 3 selvedge sts. Repeat 30 times, knitting from 3rd to 14th rows, bind off all the sts.
