Complete Knitting Pattern for a Stylish Merino Wool Sweater


You’ll Need:
450g of beige Merino Sport yarn (100% merino wool; 120m/50g);
Straight knitting needles 4 and 4.5.

Used Patterns:
Double Rib:
Cast on half of the needed quantity of stitches:
- 1st row: with working yarn *1 knit stitch, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;
- 2nd row: *make yarn over as knit stitch, slip 1 purl without knitting, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *;
- 3rd and last rows: *1 knit stitch, slip 1 purl, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *; remove the contrast yarn in ready-made detail.
Other Patterns:
- 2 x 2 rib;
- 6 x 2 rib;
- Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit stitches, in WS row – purls;
- Wrong-side pattern: in RS row – purls, in WS row – knit stitches;
- Special pattern: the quantity of stitches is multiple of 18.
1st row: *cross 12 stitches to the right (leave 6 stitches on the auxiliary needle behind work, 6 knit stitches, 6 knit stitches from the auxiliary needle), 6 knit stitches*; repeat from * to *;
2nd and all even rows: purl;
3rd, 5th and 7th rows: knit;
9th row: *6 knit stitches, cross 12 stitches to the left (leave 6 stitches on the auxiliary needle in front of work, 6 knit stitches, 6 knit stitches from the auxiliary needle)*; repeat from * to *.
Repeat 1st-10th rows.
Stitch Control:
Stockinette stitch: 16.5 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
Special pattern: 29 stitches x 29 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions:
Back:
Cast on 82 stitches and make 6 rows with double rib. After that, work with 2 x 2 rib. In 9 cm from the set-up row, change to knitting needles 4.5 and work with stockinette stitch. In 18 cm from rib, decrease 4 x 1 stitch in every 10th row from both sides after the first 12 stitches and before the last 12 stitches. In 45 cm from rib, increase 1 x 36 stitches and work in the following way: 1 selvage stitch, 108 stitches of special pattern, 1 selvage stitch.
In 15 cm from the beginning of special pattern, bind off 1 x 3 stitches from both sides for arm-hole chamfers and decrease 2 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row after the first 3 stitches and before the last 3 stitches, making the edging 3 stitches from both sides with double rib. Decrease 1 x 28 stitches after finishing decreases for arm-hole chamfers and work in the following way: 3 stitches of double rib, 4 stitches of wrong-side pattern, 58 stitches with 2 x 6 rib (finish the row with 2 knit stitches), 4 stitches of wrong-side pattern, 3 stitches of double rib.
In 10 cm from the beginning of 2 x 6 rib, decrease 2 stitches in every group of 6 purls, increase 9 x 2 stitches in every 2nd row from both sides after the first 3 stitches and before the last 3 stitches. In 14 cm from the beginning of 2 x 6 rib, decrease 2 stitches in every group of 4 purls. After finishing side increases, bind off 2 x 5 stitches and 2 x 4 stitches in every 2nd row from both sides for shoulder chamfers, leaving the rest 40 stitches.
Front:
Make in the same way as back, but bind off the central 22 stitches of neck-hole in 16 cm from the beginning of 2 x 6 rib and finish both sides separately. Bind off 2 x 3 stitches and 2 x 2 stitches in every 2nd row from both sides; make shoulder chamfers in the same way as for back.
Assembly:
Make one shoulder seam. For placket, cast on 86 stitches along neck-hole, including the previously left stitches and work with 2 x 2 rib. In 5.5 cm, make 6 rows of double rib and bind off all stitches. Make second shoulder seams, placket, and side seams.
