Knitting Instructions for a Beautiful Sweater


You’ll Need:
250 (300)g of mélange emerald yarn (63% alpaca wool, 37% cotton; 225m/50g);
275 (325)g of silver yarn (80% viscose, 20% polyester; 100m/25g);
Knitting needles 5.5;
Circular knitting needles 5.5.
Note: Work in silver and mélange emerald yarn together.
Size: S (M).
Used Patterns
Rib: the quantity of stitches is multiple 4 + 2 + 2 selvage stitches.
Pattern Instructions:
- RS rows: 1 selvage stitch, * 2 purls, 2 knit stitches*; repeat from * to *, 2 purls, 1 selvage stitch.
- WS rows: as stitches face.
- Circle rows: the quantity of stitches is multiple 4. * 2 knit stitches, 2 purls*.
- Relief pattern: the quantity of stitches is multiple 3 + 2 selvage stitches. Start each row and finish with 1 selvage stitch.
- 1st row: * 1 purl, 1 knit stitch, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *;
- 2nd and 4th rows: as stitches face;
- 3rd row: * 1 purl, 1 stitch from the lower row, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *.
Make the 1st-4th rows once, then repeat the 3rd-4th rows.
Stitch Patterns:
- Garter stitch: knit stitches.
Patterns order: 9.5 cm = 22 rows of rib, 5.5 cm = 14 rows of relief pattern, 3 cm = 8 rows of garter stitch, 3.5 cm = 8 rows of rib, 4 cm = 10 rows of relief pattern, 3 cm = 8 rows of garter stitch, 3.5 cm = 8 rows of rib pattern, 6 cm = 16 rows of relief pattern = totally, 38 cm = 94 rows.
Stitches Control
- Rib: 16 stitches x 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
- Relief pattern: 16 stitches x 26 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
- Garter stitch: 16 stitches x 27.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions
Back
Cast on 80 (92) stitches and make 1 WS row of knit stitches. Continue work according to the patterns order. In 38 cm = 94 rows from the set-up row (= end of patterns order), continue work with garter stitch. In 8 cm = 22 rows from patterns change, continue work with the relief pattern. In 13 cm = 34 rows from the last patterns change, bind off 1 x 4 (5) stitches from both sides for shoulder chamfer, then bind off 5 x 3 (4) stitches in every 2nd row. In 17.5 cm = 46 rows from the last patterns change, bind off the rest 42 stitches, the central 36 stitches form neck-hole, outer 3 stitches – shoulders.
Front
Make in the same way as the back, but in 5.5 cm = 14 rows from the last patterns change, bind off the central 10 stitches for neck-hole and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 3 stitches, 2 x 2 stitches, 6 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row from inwards. Bind off the rest 3 stitches of shoulders at the height of back.
Sleeves
Cast on 38 stitches for each sleeve and make 1 WS row of knit stitches. Continue work according to the patterns order, making rib pattern in the beginning in the following way: * 1 knit stitch, 2 purls, 1 knit stitch*; repeat from * to *, 1 selvage stitch. In 15 cm = 36 rows (9.5 cm = 22 rows) from the set-up row, increase 1 x 1 stitch from both sides for sleeve chamfers, bind off 10 x 1 stitch in every 6th row and 5 x 1 stitch in every 4th row (16 x 1 stitch in every 4th and 6th rows and 4 x 1 stitch in every 4th row) as stitches face = 70 (80) stitches. At the same time, in 38 cm = 94 rows from the set-up row, make 3 cm = 8 rows of garter stitch, 4 cm = 10 rows of relief pattern, and 3.5 cm = 10 rows of garter stitch. In 48.5 cm = 122 rows from the set-up row, bind off all stitches.
Assembly
Make shoulder seams. For the collar, cast on 88 stitches with circular knitting needles along the neck-hole and make 1 circle row of purls. Continue work with rib with circle rows. In 10 cm from the beginning of the collar, make 1 circle row of purls, bind off all stitches as purls. Sew up the sleeves and make side and sleeve seams.
