Knitting a Stylish Pullover and Hat with Mélange Yarn

Ingredients

You’ll need:

• 700g of mélange violet yarn (85% acryl, 8% polyester, 7% methanite; 115m/100g);
• 100g of silver yarn (15% polyester, 85% lurex; 300m/50g);
• Knitting needles 4 and 9;
• Circular knitting needles 4;
• Crochet hook 5.

Used Patterns

Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls.

Main pattern: 6 rows of stockinette stitch with mélange yarn, knitting needles 9, followed by 6 rows of stockinette stitch with silver yarn, knitting needles 4.

Stitches Control

Stockinette stitch, knitting needles 4: 13 sts x 23 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Stockinette stitch, knitting needles 9: 10 sts x 13 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Pullover

Back

Cast on 50 sts with mélange yarn using knitting needles 4 and work with stockinette stitch. In 40 rows from the set-up row, increase 30 sts (= 80 sts) and work with the main pattern. In 88 rows from the set-up row, change to knitting needles 4 and work with stockinette stitch. In 94 rows from the set-up row, bind off the central 16 sts and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 4 sts, 1 x 2 sts, and 1 x 1 st in every 2nd row from inwards. Then, bind off the rest 25 sts.

Front

Make in the same way as the back, but with a deeper neck-hole. For this, in 90 rows from the set-up row, bind off the central 10 sts and 1 x 4 sts, 2 x 2 sts and 2 x 1 st in every 2nd row.

Sleeves

Cast on 53 sts with mélange yarn and knitting needles 9 and work with the main pattern. In 54 rows from the set-up row, change to knitting needles 4, make 58 rows with stockinette stitch using mélange yarn, and bind off sts.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams and sew up the sleeves. Make side and sleeve seams. For the collar, cast on 58 sts with main yarn using knitting needles 4, make 21 rows of stockinette stitch, and bind off sts.

Hat

Cast on 40 sts with mélange yarn and knitting needles 9 and work with the main pattern. In 144 rows from the set-up row, bind off all sts. Make side seams. Make 7 rows of single crochets along the lower edge with mélange yarn.
