Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn: MC 1 oz.; CC a few yards; size H hook; 1 CD.
Stitch Instructions
Beginning V-Stitch
Chain 4, double crochet in the same stitch.
V-Stitch
(Double crochet, chain 1, double crochet) in space or stitch indicated.
Coaster Construction
Make 2
Rnd 1: With MC, chain 4 and join to form a ring.
Rnd 2: Chain 3 in joining stitch, (make 9 more double crochet in ring) around.
Join to top of beginning chain-3. (10)
Rnd 3: Chain 4, work 1 more double crochet in the same stitch (Beginning V-Stitch made). Work a V-Stitch in each double crochet around. Join in the 3rd chain of the beginning chain-4.
Rnd 4: Slip stitch into the next chain-1 space. Chain 3, make a double crochet in the same space, (chain 1, make 2 double crochets in the chain-1 space of V-Stitches) around. Join with slip stitch to the 1st double crochet made, ending off MC, and joining CC in the same stitch.
Border
With wrong sides together, check to see that the CD will fit properly.
Rnd 5: With CC you just joined and working through both thicknesses, join the two pieces together being careful that the stitches correspond. Chain 1, (single crochet in the next double crochet and in each space and double crochet) around. Stop joining when there is approximately 4 inches left, insert the CD at this point. Continue joining as before. Join to the first single crochet.
Rnd 6: (Chain 3, double crochet in next single crochet, skip next single crochet, slip stitch in next single crochet) around. Join to beginning chain-3. Finish off and weave in ends.
