Crochet Heart Coaster Pattern Notes

  • The heart is made up of a simple square worked in single crochet stitch.
  • The square is then turned into a heart shape by working two large shell stitches across two sides of the square.
  • The shell stitches consist of 13 treble crochet stitches.
  • The coaster is then finished off with a round of single crochet to tidy up the edges.

Crochet Heart Coaster Main Pattern

For the pink heart, please hold two strands of yarn together.

For the white heart, I used a single strand.

Both hearts were made with a 5 mm crochet hook.

Chain 12.

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from hook, work 1 sc in each ch across to end, turn. [11 sc]

Row 2-11: 1 ch (doesn’t count as a stitch), 1 sc across, turn. [11 sc]

Row 12: Miss 5 sts, work 13 tr into the next st, sl st to last st to fix the shell into position, do not turn.

Row 13: Counting down the side of the square, miss 5 end row sts, work 13 tr into the next end row st, sl st into last end row st, do not turn.

Next rnd: Work 1 sc into each ch on the underside of the foundation ch (11 sc), 1 sc into each end row st on the opposite side of the square until you reach first tr st (11 sc).

*Work 1 sc into the top of next tr, 1 ch; repeat from * across the first shell ending with sc into the last tr, sl st into the next sl st.

*Work 1 sc into the top of next tr, 1 ch; repeat from * across the second shell ending with sc into the last tr, sl st into first sc to join.

Fasten off.

Sew in all ends securely.
