How to Create a Beautiful Merino Plaid: A Comprehensive Guide

Required Materials for Merino Plaid

In order to create a merino plaid, you'll need the following:

  • Merino strong yarn
  • Special needles with a diameter of 2-3 cm

The remaining actions are the same as ordinary needle knitting.

Knitting Without Needles

You can also create a merino plaid using your hands, without traditional needles.

This method of knitting isn’t classic but rather innovative. It is performed on your wrists.

The first step is to gather stitches. To do this, measure about 3 meters of yarn and form the first stitch on your right wrist, then tighten it slightly. Repeat this with the required number of stitches.

Knitting the First Row

The first row is knitted in the following way:

  1. Hold the thread in your right hand ahead of your work.
  2. Tighten the very first stitch on your wrist.
  3. The thread in your fist will create a new stitch, which should then be moved to your left hand.

The entire row should be completed in the same manner.

Continuing the Knitting Process

The subsequent rows should also be knitted in the same way, with purl rows being made by mirroring and using purl stitches.

Closing the Knitting

Before closing, you should leave 4-5 meters of loose yarn. Then follow these steps to complete your plaid:

  1. Knit the first two stitches together as usual.
  2. Take the third stitch off your wrist and leave the remaining stitches on your hand.
  3. Once knitted, take the previous stitch off your hand, and repeat this process until the end of the row.

Finally, insert the thread into the very last stitch and tighten it.
