You’ll Need:

650g of blue Mondial Sorpresa yarn (100% merino wool; 100m/50g);

Straight knitting needles 5;

Auxiliary needle;

250 cm of blue satin lace 1.5 cm wide;

Tapestry needle.

Note:

In order to make 1 size bigger/smaller, increase/decrease 2 cm (4 sts of back and 2 sts of wrong-side pattern of front) in width and 2 cm (6 rows) in length.

Used Patterns

Double Rib:

Cast on half of the needed quantity of sts.

1st row: working yarn, *1 knit st, 1 yarn over*; repeat from * to *;

2nd row: *make yarn over as knit st, slip 1 purl without knitting, yarn in front of work*; repeat from * to *; take off the contrast yarn in the finished detail.

1 x 1 Rib:

Utilize the standard technique for ribbing.

Stockinette Stitch:

In RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls;

Rib with Cables (42 sts wide):

Work according to the scheme, making even rows according to the ornament.

41st row: repeat the pattern from the 1st row.

Stitches Control:

Stockinette stitch: 19 sts x 25 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Rib with cables: 42 sts = 12 cm;

Front placket: 11 sts = 3.5 cm.

Instructions

Back:

Cast on 75 sts for the placket with contrast yarn and make 23 rows of stockinette stitch with main yarn, 1 WS row of knit sts, and 22 rows of stockinette stitch (totally, 18 cm). Take off contrast yarn, collect 74 sts on the auxiliary needle, fold the placket in half WS inside, place auxiliary needles behind the left needle and make 1 st from each needle as knit 2 tog, the last st from the left needle as a knit st. Increase 1 x 1 st in the next row from both sides and work as follows: 2 sts of double rib, 73 sts of stockinette stitch, 2 sts of double rib. Increase 1 x 1 st 9 cm from placket from both sides after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts. In 22 rows – 1 x 1 st, in 8 rows – 1 x 1 st; make all sts with stockinette stitch in 22 cm from placket. In 26 cm from placket, bind off 1 x 2 sts from both sides for arm-hole chamfers and 1 x 2 sts, then decrease 4 x 1 st in every 2nd row after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts. In 17 cm from the beginning of chamfers, bind off the rest 71 sts.

Front:

Cast on 64 sts and make 4 rows of double rib, followed by 8 rows of 1 x 1 rib, starting with 1 knit st on the RS (totally, 4 cm). Then, work as follows: 2 sts of double rib, 9 sts of 1 x 1 rib, 42 sts of rib with cables, 9 sts of 1 x 1 rib, 2 sts of double rib. Make 8 rows of 1 x 1 rib, followed by 4 rows of double rib and bind off all the sts with Kitchener’s stitch in 150 cm (376 rows).

Sleeves:

Cast on 49 sts with contrast yarn and make placket with the main yarn in the same way as for back. Then, work with stockinette stitch. In 4 cm from placket, increase 3 x 1 st in every 20th row from both sides after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts, and 2 x 1 st in every 10th row. In 34 cm from placket, bind off 1 x 2 sts from both sides for sleeve caps, then decrease 20 x 1 st in every 2nd row after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts. In 17 cm from the beginning of the sleeve cap, decrease 17 sts (1 knit st, then knit 2 tog), bind off the rest 8 sts.

Assembly:

For side seams, sew the edges of back at 4 cm from the beginning of arm-holes to the WS of stripe behind the last 13 sts, sew the upper part of back to WS of front stripe behind the last 13 sts, make sleeve seams and sew up the sleeves, sewing them to the front stripe behind the last 13 sts.
