Knitting with Cotton Yarn: Instructions and Patterns

You’ll Need:

150g of 100% cotton yarn;

Straight knitting needles 3 and 5.

Used Patterns

• 2 x 2 rib;
• Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls;
• Rows with holes:

  1^st row: * 3 knit st, 1 yarn over, knit2tog*; repeat from * to *;

  2^nd row: purl.

Main pattern: the quantity of sts is multiple 7 + 2.

1^st row: 1 purl, * 2 knit sts, knit2tog, 1 yarn over, 3 knit sts*; repeat from * to * to marker, purl;

2^nd row: 1 knit st, * 1 purl, cross purl2tog, 1 yarn over, 1 purl, 1 yarn over, purl2tog, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *, 1 knit st;

3^rd row: 1 purl, * knit2tog, 1 yarn over, 3 knit sts, 1 yarn over, broaching*; repeat from * to *, 1 purl;

4^th and 8^th rows: 1 knit st, purls, 1 knit st;

5^th row: 1 purl, * 1 yarn over, broaching, 5 knit sts*; repeat from * to *, 1 purl;

6^th row: 1 knit st, * 1 yarn over, purl2tog, 2 purls, cross purl2tog, 1 yarn over, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *, 1 knit st;

7^th row: 1 purl, * 2 knit sts, 1 yarn over, broaching, knit2tog, yarn over, 1 knit st*; repeat from * to * to marker, 1 purl.

Repeat 1^st-8^th rows.

Stitches Control:

20 sts x 28 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Front/Back

Cast on 132 sts with knitting needles 5 and work with the main pattern. After 16 cm, decrease 17 x 1 st in every 2^nd row from both sides. In 39 cm from the set-up row, decrease 18 sts and make 2 rows with holes. Change to knitting needles 3 and work with stockinette stitch. In 45 cm from the set-up row, bind off 1 x 3 sts from both sides for arm-holes chamfers; then, decrease 4 x 1 st after the first 2 sts and before the last 2 sts in every row, and 10 x 1 st in every 2^nd row. At the same time, in 46 cm from the set-up row, bind off the central 22 sts for neck-hole and finish both sides separately, binding off 2 x 2 sts and 4 x 1 st in every 2^nd row. In 56 cm from the set-up row, bind off the rest sts for each shoulder. Cast on 80 sts along neck-hole with knitting needles 3 and make 2 cm of 2 x 2 rib, then bind off all the sts.

Assembly

Make side seams. For straps, cast on 6 sts with knitting needles 3 and work with 2 x 2 rib for 20 cm. Bind off all the sts. Sew the straps, then prepare a cord 120 cm long and insert it in the row with holes (above main pattern).
