Materials

  • Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn:
  • Maroon – 1.25 oz, 60 yds (35 g, 55 m)
  • Off-White – 1 oz, 50 yds (30 g, 45 m)
  • (Lily Sugar ‘n Cream Stripes – Wine & Soft Ecru)
  • Crochet Hook: Size H-8 (5.00 mm)

Instructions

Joining with Single Crochet (sc)

When instructed to join with sc, begin with a slip knot on hook, insert hook in stitch or space indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch (puff-st): (Yarn over, draw up a loop in stitch) 4 times, yarn over, draw through 7 loops on hook, chain 1, LOOSELY.

Crochet Rows

Row 1: (Right Side) With Off-White, chain 31, double crochet in 4th chain from hook, (double crochet in next chain) across. (29 double crochet) Finish off.

Row 2: With right side facing, join Maroon with slip stitch to first double crochet, chain 4 (counts as first double crochet and chain 1), skip next double crochet, (puff-stitch in next double crochet, skip next double crochet) across to last double crochet, double crochet in last double crochet. (13 puffs) Finish off.

Row 3: With right side facing, join Off-White with slip stitch to first double crochet, chain 3, 2 double crochet in each chain-1 space across to last space, double crochet in last space, double crochet in last double crochet. (29 double crochet)

Row 4: Chain 4, turn, skip next double crochet, double crochet in next double crochet, (chain 1, skip next double crochet, double crochet in next double crochet) across.

Row 5: Chain 3, turn, 2 double crochet in each chain-1 space across to last space, double crochet in last space, double crochet in last double crochet. (29 double crochet) Finish off.

Rows 6-13: Repeat Rows 2-5 twice more.

At the end of Row 13, DO NOT FINISH OFF.

Edging

Rnd 1: With right side facing, chain 1, 3 sc in last double crochet of Row 13, work 27 sc along sides of rows, working in unused loops of starting chains, 3 sc in first chain, sc across to last chain, 3 sc in last chain, work 27 sc along sides of rows, working in double crochet of Row 13, 3 sc in first double crochet, sc across; join with slip stitch to first sc. (120 sc) Finish off.

Rnd 2: With right side facing, join Maroon with sc to center sc of any 3-sc group, chain 3, (puff-stitch, sc) in same sc, * chain 3, puff-stitch in last sc worked, skip 2 sc, (sc in next sc, chain 3, puff-stitch in last sc worked, skip 2 sc) across to next corner, (sc, puff-stitch, sc) in center sc of 3-sc group; repeat from * around omitting last sc of final repeat. Finish off and weave in ends.
