Notes

I will be using US terms (British terms in brackets).

This pattern is worked from the top down. This means we will be crocheting this shawl from the largest point (top), to the bottom, by decreasing row after row.

A simple shell stitch edging is added at the end of the project.

You will need

5 skeins of Emu Treasure DK or 2 skeins of Bernat Softee Baby in shade Baby Pink

A 4 mm crochet hook

A pair of scissors

A tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Ch: chain

St: Stitch

Sk: skip

Sl st: slip stitch

SC: Single Crochet (UK Double Crochet)

DC: Double crochet (UK Treble Crochet)

EOR: End of row

Pattern

Make a slip knot and ch 243.

Row 1: DC in 5th chain from hook; ch 1, sk 1 st, DC in next ch until eor.

Row 2: Turn your work, sl st through 1st 2 stitches (=1 square), ch 4 (=DC +1 ch), sk 1 st, DC into DC from previous row, [ch 1, sk 1 st, DC into DC from previous row] until last 2 stitches. Leave last 2 st unworked.

Row 3-58: Repeat row 2.

Do not fasten off.

Shell stitch edging

With yarn still attached to your shawl, do not turn your work; you will be working your shell stitch edging along the same edge where you just placed your last st.

Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch); place 7 DC into first ch 1 sp from previous row (= first shell st); place a SC into next ch 1 space from previous row to anchor down project.

[Go directly into next ch 1 sp, and place 7 DC into that, and SC into next ch 1 sp] until eor.

Fasten off.

You will only have part of the shawl’s edging done.

Attach yarn to where we began our border (the top of the “V” of the shawl); you should attach your yarn into the first ch 1 space next to where we placed your first 7 DC.

We are going to work a slip stitch through the first DC we placed there, and turn your work.

Now go directly into the next ch 1 space with 7 DC, and SC into the next ch 1 space until eor. Finish row with a SC.

Fasten off, tidy up all loose ends.

This crochet shawl is so delicate
