Complete Guide to Knitting With Angora Yarn: Double Brioche and Basketweave Patterns

You'll Need:

50g of yarn (30% angora, 30% half-bred wool, 40% acryl)

Knitting needles 4 and 6

Instructions

Knit double brioche with knitting needle 4.

Step 1: Cast On and Initial Rows

- 6 rows (about 2 cm):

Cast on 120 sts and 2 selvedge sts (about 55-56 cm).

1st row: slip selvedge st, * 1 knit st, 1 slip st, 1 purl, 1 slip st*, selvedge st in purl;

2nd row: slip selvedge st, * 1 knit st, 1 slip st, 1 purl, 1 slip st*, selvedge st in purl (in this row knit the sts that you slip in the 1st row without knitting them);

- knit to the end of the row.

Step 2: Knit the Main Pattern

Knit the main pattern "basketweave" according to the scheme below with knitting needles 6.

After the brioche in the 1st row, add 12 sts more, total quantity of sts: 134 sts with selvedge sts. Knit:

1st row: all knit sts;

2nd row: all purls, then knit the pattern.

Basketweave Pattern Rows

The pattern consists of 12 rows:

  • 1st row: 1 selvedge st, * replace 4 sts on the auxiliary needle and leave before your work, 4 knit sts, knit 4 sts from the auxiliary needle with knit sts*, 1 selvedge st with purl;
  • 2nd row: all purls;
  • 3rd row: all knit sts;
  • 4th row: all purls;
  • 5th row: all knit sts;
  • 6th row: all purls;
  • 7th row: 1 selvedge st, * replace 4 sts on the auxiliary needle and leave before your work, 4 knit sts, knit 4 sts from the auxiliary needle with knit sts*, 1 selvedge st with purl;
  • 8th row: all purls;
  • 9th row: all knit sts;
  • 10th row: all purls;
  • 11th row: all knit sts;
  • 12th row: all purls.

Repeat from the 1st row.

Step 3: Complete the Pattern

Repeat the pattern twice, i.e., 24 rows, plus 2 rows from the third = 26 rows of the pattern (about 13 cm).

Then return to brioche: 2 knit sts x 2 purls.

Step 4: Decrease Stitches

In the first row after the pattern, knit sts with decreases in the following way: 2 knit sts, 1 purl, 2 together purl. Knit 1 cm of brioche and start to decrease sts: knit 2 together purl all purls, in a row - 2 together knit all knit sts, make decreases in a st on the right side.

Decrease rows for 5 cm.
