Materials

BERNAT NYLO GERMANTOWN (2 oz. balls)

• 2 Charcoal Heather (M C)
• 1 Camel (C C)

1 BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size J (Canadian Wool Crochet Hook No. 6)
OR ANY SIZE HOOK THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW

Gauge

5 s c = 2 inches; 5 rows = 2 inches

Note

Yarn is used double throughout.

Instructions

Using a double strand of M C, ch 2.

Round Instructions

Round 1: 6 s c in second st from hook.

Round 2: 2 s c in each s c — 12 s c.

Round 3: * 1 s c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * to end of round — 18 sc.

Round 4: * 1 s c in each of next 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * to end of round — 24 s c.

Continue in this manner to increase 6 sts in EVERY ROUND 5 times more, having 1 s c more between increases on EVERY ROUND. Work even on 54 s c for 15 rounds more. Fasten off M C.

Brim

Round 1: Using double strand of C C, * 1 s c in each of next 8 sts, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * to end of round — 60 s c. Work 1 round even.

Round 3: * 1 s c in each of next 9 sts, 2 s c in next st, repeat from * to end of round — 66 s c.

Continue in this manner to increase 6 sts in EVERY ROUND 3 times more, having 1 st more between increases on EVERY ROUND. Work 2 rounds even on 84 s c.

Round 9: * Work 1 s c in next st in round BELOW last round, repeat from * to end of round. Fasten off.

Cord and Pompons

Cord: Using a double strand of C C, make a ch 24 inches long. Work 1 sl st in horizontal back loop of each st. Fasten off.

Make 2 large pompons — one in M C, one in C C, and sew one to each end of the cord. Knot cord around the top of the brim as shown in the photograph.
