You’ll Need

9-10 skeins of 100% Merino yarn (87m/50g);

Circle needles 5.5 (60 and 80 cm long);

2 buttons, 2.5 cm diameter;

Markers.

Stitches Control

Pearl pattern: 16 sts x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Relief pattern (according to the scheme): 36 (36, 52, 52) sts = 14 (14, 20, 20) cm.

Size

Width: 37, 42, 53, and 66 cm;

Length: 150 cm;

Chest circumference: 80-94, 99-104, 109-114, and 119-127 cm.

Used Patterns

2 x 2 Rib

The quantity of sts is multiplied by 4.

1st row (RS): 3 knit sts, *2 purls, 2 knit sts*; repeat from * to * to last 5 sts, 2 purls, 2 knit sts;

2nd row (WS): 3 purls, *2 knit sts, 2 purls*; repeat from * to * to last 5 sts, 2 knit sts, 3 purls.

Repeat 1st-2nd rows.

Pearl Pattern

Set-up row (WS): *1 knit st, 1 purl*; repeat from * to * to last st, 1 knit st;

1st and 2nd rows (WS): *1 purl, 1 knit st*; repeat from * to * to last st, 1 purl;

3rd-4th rows: *1 knit st, 1 purl*; repeat from * to *, 1 knit st.

Repeat 1st-4th rows.

Instructions

Cast on 72, 80, 104, and 124 sts and work with 2 x 2 rib for 30 rows, finishing with a WS row, then 1 row of knit sts.

Continue work according to the description. (WS): 5 knit sts, place marker, set-up row of the pearl pattern on 27, 35, 43, 63 sts, place marker, set-up row of the relief pattern on 36, 36, 52, 52 sts: make 12 sts before pattern repeat according to scheme 1, repeat the pattern of 8 sts x 2, 2, 4, 4 times. Then, make 8 sts after the pattern repeat once, place marker, 4 knit sts.

Next row: 4 knit sts, skip marker, pattern according to the scheme on 36, 36, 52, 52 sts, skip marker, make 1 row of pearl pattern on 27, 35, 43, 63 sts, skip marker, 1 purl, 4 knit sts.

Then, make 2 rows according to the scheme once, and repeat 3rd-18th rows x 16 times, making 19th-27th rows once = 268 rows according to the scheme, taking into account the set-up row.

After that, complete with 1 row of purls, at 137 cm from the beginning of work. Next, work 2 rows of 2 x 2 rib, finishing with a wrong side row. Turn to make button-holes: you should work to the last 5 sts, yarn over, purl2tog, 3 knit sts. Then complete 15 cm of rib, finishing with a wrong-side row.

Repeat the row with button-hole in the next right-side row and again 11 rows of rib; at this moment, your shawl is 150 cm long. Bind off the sts.

Finally, fold your work in half and sew the buttons to complete your shawl.
