Complete Guide to Creating a Beautiful Afghan with Merino Yarn and Double-Pointed Needles

You’ll need:

2150g of yarn (98% Merino, 2% polyester; 70m/50g);

Double-pointed knitting needles 6.5;

Crochet hook 3.

Size: 20 x 200 cm.

Used Patterns

Due to the scheme. Only right-side rows are stated on the scheme, make wrong-side rows due to the ornament. Yarn overs – as purls. Repeat the pattern between arrows 4 times in every circle row.

Stitches control: 23 circle rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Afghan

This afghan consists of 60 separate elements: make relief squares with double-pointed knitting needles from the central point around.

Start each square with the ring of 8 chain stitches, made by means of the crochet hook: make a ring of yarn, insert the crochet hook in it, draw the yarn = 1 stitch, draw the next stitch through the loop on the crochet hook – first stitch. Repeat these actions 8 times, so you should get 8 stitches.

Then, divide the stitches on 4 knitting needles (2 stitches on each knitting needle), turn to circle knitting. Make 23 rows around with a relief pattern.

Bind off the stitches: transfer yarn before work, transfer the 1st stitch of the first knitting needle to the 4th knitting needle, draw the yarn behind work, return the stitch to the 1st knitting needle, turn your work and bind off all the stitches from the wrong side as knit stitches.

Assembly

Sew all the elements together. At first, connect the stripes of 6 square motifs. You should get 10 stripes. Then, sew the stripes in one-piece work.

Make 30 tassels 12 cm long. Each strick consists of 12 threads. Attach the tassels along the long sides of your afghan.
