Knitting Instructions for a Stylish Hat

You'll Need:

75g of light-green yarn, 100% acryl (200 m/50g);

Double pointed knitting needles 2.5 mm and 3 mm.

Instructions

Make a sample of rib and main pattern to count the needed quantity of stitches.

1 cm = 2 sts, 2 cm = 4 sts.

For head circumference 56 cm, you'll need: 56 cm x 2 sts = 112 sts.

Minus 2 cm for stretching = 108 sts.

So, you need 108 sts.

Cast on 54 sts with contrast yarn using double pointed knitting needles 2.5 mm. Cut the yarn.

Attach the main yarn to the auxiliary yarn.

Make 4 rows with hollow rib:

Hollow Rib Rows

1st row: * yarn over, 1 knit st*. The quantity of sts at the end of the row is 108.

2nd row: * make the yarn over as purls, slip knit sts, working yarn is in front of work*;

3rd row: * knit st, slip purl st, working yarn is in front of work*;

4th row: * purl, slip knit st, working yarn is behind work*;

Take away the auxiliary yarn.

Make 5 cm height of 1 x 1 rib.

Take knitting needles 3 mm for the main pattern.

In the main pattern, the repeat is 6 sts and 4 rows.

The quantity of sts (108) should be multiplied by 6. 108/6 = 18 pattern repeats.

1st row: * 1 purl, from the next 3 sts, make 5 sts (1 knit st, 1 yarn over, 1 knit st, 1 yarn over, 1 knit st), 2 purls*;

2nd row: * 1 purl, 5 knit sts, 2 purls*;

3rd row: * knit2tog with right decline, 3 knit sts, knit2tog with left decline, 1 purl*;

4th row: * 5 knit sts, 1 purl*.

Repeat from 1st to 4th rows.

Make 6 pattern repeats in height and start making the crown.

Crown Instructions

1st row: make decreases in a pattern repeat in width. * 1 purl, 3 knit sts, 3 purls, knit 3 sts from 5 sts, 2 purls* - 9 times;

2nd and all the even rows: right side - knit sts, wrong side - purls;

3rd row: * knit2tog with right decline, 1 knit st, knit2tog with left decline, 1 purl, knit2tog with right decline, 3 knit sts, knit2tog with left decline, 1 purl*.

We decrease 18 sts. There are 90 sts on the knitting needles.

5th row: * 1 purl, make 3 sts from 1, 3 purls, make 3 sts from 3 sts, 2 purls*;

7th row: * knit2tog with right decline, 1 knit st, knit2tog with left decline, 1 purl*;

There are 72 sts left.

9th row: * 1 purl, make 3 sts from 2, 1 purl*;

11th row: * knit2tog with right decline, 1 knit st, knit2tog with left decline*.

There are 54 sts left.

13th row: * 1 purl, make sts from 4 sts, 1 purl*;

15th row: * knit2tog with right decline, 1 knit st, knit2tog with left decline*.

There are 27 sts left.

17th row: 2 knit sts, *knit2tog, 1 knit st*, 1 knit st.

Collect the rest 19 sts with the needle, tighten and fasten.
