Cozy Red and White Sweater Knitting Instructions

You’ll Need

160g of red yarn (25% wool, 75% acryl; 280m/100g);

160g of the same yarn, but in white color;

Knitting needles size 3;

Crochet hook size 3.

Garter stitch: knit stitches.

Main pattern: work according to the scheme. The quantity of stitches is a multiple of 17 + 2 selvage stitches.

Stripes order: *16 red rows, 16 white rows*.

Stitches Control

20 stitches x 22 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 87 stitches with red yarn and work in garter stitch for 4 rows. Then, work with the main pattern. For the first red stripe, knit 18 rows. Change to white yarn in the 3rd row of the pattern repeat and make stripes of 16 rows. After making 5 stripes (40 cm), bind off 6 stitches from both sides for armholes. Make stitches that aren’t included in the pattern as knit stitches in RS rows. At a height of 20 cm, starting from the beginning of the armholes, bind off the central 17 stitches for the neck hole and finish each side separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 1 x 5 stitches and 1 x 2 stitches every 2nd row from inwards. Knit the remaining 22 stitches of the shoulder straight for 2 rows and transfer stitches to the auxiliary needles. Make the second side in symmetry.

Front

Make in the same way as the back, but with a deeper neck hole. At a height of 16 cm of the armhole, bind off the central 7 stitches for the neck hole and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 2 x 3 stitches, 2 x 2 stitches, and 2 x 1 stitch every 2nd row from inwards. Knit the remaining 22 stitches of the shoulder straight for 2 rows and transfer stitches to the auxiliary needles. Make the second side in symmetry. Sew the open stitches of the back and front with a “stitch in stitch” seam.

Sleeves

Cast on 70 stitches with red yarn along the armhole and work with the stripes order. For the sleeve chamfer, bind off 1 stitch from both sides every 16th row. After making 8 stripes of garter stitch, make 8 rows of garter stitch with white yarn. Bind off stitches. Make the second sleeve in symmetry.

Assembly

Make sleeve and side seams. Fasten the neck hole with 3 rows of single crochets using red yarn.
