Instructions
Cast on 45 (59) stitches with knitting needles 5 and knit 9 cm = 22 rows for the placket as follows: 1 selvedge stitch, 9 (15) stitches of rib, 6 stitches of relief strip, 13 (15) stitches of rib, 6 stitches of relief strip, 9 (15) stitches of rib, 1 selvedge stitch. Then, switch to knitting needles 5.5 and proceed: 1 selvedge stitch, 9 (15) stitches of relief cable, for size S start near arrow A, 6 stitches of relief strip, 13 (15) stitches of relief cable, 6 stitches of relief strip, 9 (15) stitches of relief cable, for size S finish near arrow B, 1 selvedge stitch. Simultaneously, increase 4 x 1 stitch and 15 x 2 stitches in the 2nd row from both sides for sleeve chamfers = 113 (127) stitches, include them in the pattern (in relief cable and in relief strip by turn). In 19 cm = 40 rows from the placket, increase 15 stitches from both sides = 143 (157) stitches, include these stitches in the pattern. In 27.5 cm = 58 rows (30.5 cm = 64 rows) from the placket, divide the work in half for the neck-hole and finish 72 (79) stitches separately, leaving the rest 71 (78) stitches. Make the back on the first 72 (79) stitches. In 39 cm = 82 rows (45 cm = 94 rows) from the placket, reach the center of the back.
Make the left front on the last 71 (78) stitches, while binding off 3 (2) stitches from the right side for the neck-hole chamfer and 11 x 3 stitches (14 x 3 stitches and 14 x 2 stitches by turn). In 39 cm = 82 rows (45 cm = 94 rows) from the placket, bind off the remaining 35 (41) stitches. For the right front, cast on 35 (41) stitches and continue the pattern for the left front, commencing with the 17th row of the scheme for size S, while for size L make the last 2 rows of the left front once (= 5th and 6th rows of the scheme). Make the neck-hole chamfer symmetrically, i.e., decreases will become increases = 71 (78) stitches. In 50.5 cm = 106 rows (58.5 cm = 122 rows) from the placket, reach the end of the neck-hole. Continue working on 71 (78) stitches of the front and 72 (79) stitches of the back, totaling 143 (157) stitches. Make sleeve chamfers symmetrically to the left front and back. In 78 cm = 164 rows (89 cm = 186 rows) from the placket, create the placket of the right sleeve with knitting needles 5 in the same manner as for the left sleeve. Bind off the stitches according to the ornament.
Assembly
Cast on 126 (146) stitches with circle knitting needles along the lower edges of the front and back, and work as follows: 1 selvedge stitch, *7 (9) stitches of rib, 6 stitches of relief strip*; repeat from * to * 8 times, finishing with 7 (9) stitches of rib and 1 selvedge stitch. At 9 (11) cm height of the placket, bind off the stitches according to the ornament. Cast on 45 (55) stitches with circle knitting needles along the straight edges of the front, 45 (47) stitches along the neck-hole chamfers, and 37 (43) stitches along the back neck-hole. Work on all 217 (247) stitches with rib, starting with 1 selvedge stitch and 1 knit stitch, then make 1 purl, 1 knit stitch alternately, and finish with 1 selvedge stitch. Simultaneously, create 6 buttonholes in the 1st row of the right front placket; bind off 2 stitches and cast them on again in the next row. Make the 1st buttonhole in 2 stitches of the lower edge and the next 5 buttonholes with an interval of 6 (8) stitches. At 2.5 cm height of the placket, bind off all stitches as knit stitches. Then, make side seams and lower seams of the sleeves. Finally, sew on the buttons.
