SPECIAL STITCH

Slip ring: Leaving 4-inch end (see illustration), lap thread over 4-inch end forming lp, insert hook through lp from front to back, yo, pull through lp to form ring, yo, pull through lp on hook.

Rnd 1: Starting at top with dark celery, make slip ring (see Special Stitches), ch 3 (see Pattern Notes), 9 dc in ring, join (see Pattern Notes) in top of beg ch-3. (10 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-3. (20 dc)

Rnd 5 [6, 7, 8]: With red-violet, ch 1, sc in each st around, change color to orchid in last st, join in first sc.

Rnds 6-8 [7-9, 8-11, 9-12]: Rep rnd 5 [6, 7, 8] with orchid. At end of last rnd, change color to red-violet in last st.

Brim

Rnd 1: With dark celery, ch 3, dc in each st around, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: Working in front lp (see Stitch Guide) only, ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each of next 4 dc, [2 dc in next st, dc in each of next 4 sts] around, join in top of beg ch-3. (72 [84, 96, 108] dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in each st around, change color to orchid in last st, join in top of beg ch-3.

Rnd 4: With orchid, ch 1, sc in each st around, join in first sc, fasten off.

Flower

Rnd 1: With orchid, make slip ring, ch 1, 6 sc in ring, join in first sc. (6 sc)

Rnd 2: [Ch 3 (does not count as first dc), sl st in front lp of next st] around, do not join. (6 ch-3 sps)
