Relief Pattern A:

* 4 knit sts, draw the last but one st through the last st, slip the next st, draw it through the previous st, slip the next st and knit it through the previous st*; repeat from * to *.

Relief Pattern B:

1st row (WS): 2 purls, * yarn over, 3 purls, draw the 1st st through the last 2 sts*; repeat from * to *, 1 purl.

2nd row: knit;

3rd row: 1 purl, * 3 purls, draw the 1st st through the last 2 sts, yarn over*; repeat from * to *, 2 purls;

4th row: knit.

Repeat 1st-4th rows.

Stockinette Stitch:

In RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls.

Stitch Control:

27 sts = 10 cm.

Instructions

Cast 163 (175) 187 (199) sts with knitting needles size 2.5 and make Relief Pattern A = 82 (88) 94 (100) sts. Then, make 10 rows of garter stitch; correct the quantity of sts in the last row to 81 (87) 93 (99) sts. Proceed to work with Relief Pattern B until reaching a height of 10 (11) 12 (14) cm. Continue with stockinette stitch using straight and reversed rows, and make decreases as follows:

In RS row: 1 knit st, * 11 (12) 13 (14) knit sts, knit2tog*; repeat from * to *, 2 knit sts = 6 sts were decreased. Repeat these decreases in every RS row, reducing 1 st between decreases until only 15 sts are left. Cut the yarn, tighten the remaining sts, and fasten off.

Assembly

Make seams. Cast on 63 (69) 75 (81) sts, and work 2 rows of garter stitch with knitting needles size 2.5. In the next row, make 1 knit st, * 1 yarn over, knit2tog*; repeat from * to *. Work 2 more rows of garter stitch and bind off sts. Finally, draw lace through the holes in the pattern.
