Knitting a Stylish Vest and Hat using Alpaca Yarn

You’ll Need:

600 (650) 700g of green Linie 310 Alpaca (100% alpaca; 100m/50g);

Knitting needles 4.5;

Double-pointed knitting needles 4 and 4.5;

Auxiliary needle;

Crochet hook 4;

Green fur pompom.

Garter Stitch

Knit stitches;

Pattern with Cables

(33 stitches wide): follow the scheme, in WS row – purls.

Waffle Pattern

(8 stitches wide): follow the scheme. Start as per the instructions, pattern repeat, and finish according to the pattern. Repeat 1^st-20^th rows.

Stitches Control:

Waffle pattern, using knitting needles 4.5: 19 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Pattern with cables, using knitting needles 4.5: 33 sts = 12 cm.

Vest

Back

Cast on 11 stitches with knitting needles 4.5 and work with pattern with cables between selvage stitches. Increase 22 (18) 14 x 2 stitches and 0 (4) 8 x 3 stitches in every 2^nd row from both sides, beginning from the central 9 stitches = 35 stitches. Then, make increased stitches with waffle pattern to finish waffle pattern at arrow A from the pattern with cables from the right side, and start from arrow B from pattern with cables from the left side. In 82 (83) 84 cm from the set-up row, bind off the central 35 (39) 43 stitches for the neck-hole and then, knit both sides separately, binding off 1 x 5 stitches and 1 x 3 stitches in every 2^nd row. In 84 (85) 86 cm from the set-up row, bind off the rest of the shoulder stitches.

Front

Make in the same way as back, but for a deeper neck-hole, bind off the central 15 (19) 23 stitches in 68 (69) 70 cm from the set-up row and then knit separately, binding off 1 x 4 stitches, 1 x 3 stitches, 3 x 2 stitches, and 3 x 1 stitch in every 2^nd row and 2 x 1 stitch in every 4^th row. Bind off the shoulder stitches at the height of the back.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. At 45 cm height from the bottom edge, make the side seam. Fasten armholes with 1 row of single crochets and 1 row of “shrimp stitch”. For tassels, fold 2 threads of yarn 15 cm long.

Collar

Cast on 35 stitches and work with pattern with cables between selvage stitches. Bind off the stitches. Sew the set-up row and the bound-off row. Sew the collar to the neck-hole.

Hat

Cast on 100 stitches with double-pointed knitting needles 4 and make 4 cm of garter stitch for the placket with circular rows, increasing 12 stitches in the last circular row. Change to knitting needles 4.5 and work with waffle pattern. In 18 cm from the placket, change to knitting needles 4 and work with garter stitch, making decreases by knitting the 7^th and 8^th stitches together. Repeat these decreases in every 2^nd row for 6 times. Tighten the remaining 14 stitches in 12 rows. Sew on the pompom.
