Complete Guide to Crocheting a Stylish Hat and Mittens with Essential Materials and Instructions

Hat

You’ll need:

  • 100g of light-dark-grey/black yarn (#11) of Famoso yarn (45% merino wool, 55% wool, 55% polyacryl; 38m/50g);
  • 50g of light-grey/black (#11) of Uno Lana Grossa yarn (52% merino wool, 48% polyacryl; 65m/50g);
  • Crochet hook size 12;
  • Pom-poms.

Head circumference: 56-58 cm.

Stitches control: 5 sts x 6 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Start with the top of the hat and work from top to down with circular rows of single crochets. Make 2 chain stitches with Famoso yarn. Make 6 single crochets in the 1st row back in the 2nd chain stitch from the crochet hook. In the 2nd row, double every stitch = 12 single crochets. In the 3rd row, double every 2nd stitch = 18 single crochets. In the 4th row, double every 3rd stitch = 24 single crochets. In the 5th-14th rows, make 24 single crochets in every row. In the 14th row, finish the row with 1 slip stitch. Weave in ends. Make a 7 cm diameter pompom from Uno yarn and sew it to the top.

Mittens

You’ll need:

  • 100g of light-dark-grey/black yarn (#11) of Famoso yarn (45% merino wool, 55% wool, 55% polyacryl; 38m/50g);
  • 50g of light-grey/black (#11) of Uno Lana Grossa yarn (52% merino wool, 48% polyacryl; 65m/50g);
  • Crochet hook size 10;
  • Double-pointed knitting needles size 6.

Stitches control: 6 sts x 7 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

Instructions

Make 2 mittens.

At first, work with single crochets for the upper part of the mitten and alternate between straight and reversed rows. For this, make 12 chain stitches with Famoso yarn and crochet hook size 10, circle them in the ring with 1 slip stitch, and make 3 circular rows of 12 single crochets, starting every row with 1 chain stitch increase. In the 3rd row, connect 1 slip stitch in the ring and make 6 circular rows of single crochets on 12 stitches. Make 2 single crochets together in the next circular row = 6 stitches, finishing the row with 1 slip stitch.
