Materials Needed

You will need:

  • worsted weight cotton yarn (sample made with Loops & Threads Classic Cotton in Bubblegum and Burgundy)
  • H crochet hook (5mm)
  • yarn needle

Instructions

Step 1: ch 32

Row 1

sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch to the end (31 sc)

Row 2

ch 1, turn, sc in first st, [sk 2 sts, 5 dc in next st, sk 2 sts, sc 1 in next st] repeat to end (5 shells)

Row 3

ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn, 2 dc in same st, [sk 2, sc in next st (center dc of shell in previous row), sk 2, 5 dc in next st (sc from previous row)] repeat until 3 sts remaining, sk 2 sts, 3 dc in last st (4 shells, 2 half shells)

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have 16 rows of shells, ending with a row 3

Final Row (Row 18)

ch 1, turn, sc in first 3 sts, hdc in next st, [sc in next 5 sts, hdc in next] repeat until 3 sts remaining, sc in last 3 sts

Border

ch 1, turn 90 degrees to work down the side, sc evenly down the side (I put 1 st in the side of each sc row and 2 sts in the side of each dc row). In corner work 3 sc, sc in each st across bottom, 3 sc in corner, sc evenly up second side, 3 sc in corner, sc in each st across the top, 2 sc in same st as first sc, sl st to first sc to join.

Finish off and weave in ends.
