Materials Needed

  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn in 4 colors. I used scraps and don't know the names of the colors but all of the yarn is Red Heart Super Saver.
  • Size H/8 or 5mm aluminum crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving in ends

  • Yarn Thickness: 4mm
  • Gauge: 4sc = 1"
  • Finished Size: 12" x 12"
  • Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitches Used

  • Bl: Yo, insert hook in stitch indicated, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull through 2 loops on hook 3 times, yo, pull through all 4 loops on hook.
  • Vst: Dc, ch1, dc in stitch indicated.

Instructions

RND 1: With color 1, ch5. Join w/slst to first ch to form ring. Ch2. 15dc in ring. Join w/slst to top of first dc.

RND 2: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. Ch5. Sk 3 dc. *Sc in next dc. Ch5. Sk 3 dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off color 1.

RND 3: Join color 2 to same st as slst. Sc in same st as slst. (3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch5 sp.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 4: Ch1. Sc in same st as slst. (Ch4. Sc, ch4, sc in next ch2 sp. Ch4.) *Sc in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off color 2.

RND 5: Join color 3 in same st as slst. Ch4. Dc in same st. Vst made. (Ch1. Bl in next ch 4 sp. Ch2. Bl, ch3, bl in next ch2 corner sp. Ch2. Bl in next ch 4 sp. Ch1.) *Vst in next sc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4.

RND 6: Slst into the next ch1 sp. Ch4. Dc in same sp. (Ch1. Bl in next ch1 sp. Ch2. Bl in next ch2 sp. Ch2. Bl, ch3, bl in next ch3 corner sp. Ch2. Bl in next ch2 sp. Bl in next ch1 sp. Ch1.) *Vst in next vst. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to 3rd ch of ch4. Fasten off color 3.

RND 7: Join color 4 to ch1 sp of first vst just after joining. Sc in same sp. (Ch3, sc in next ch2 sp, twice. Ch3. Sc, ch3, sc in next c3 corner sp. Ch3, sc in next ch2 sp, twice. Ch3. *Sc in next ch1 sp of the next st. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first sc.

RND 8: Slst into the first ch3 sp. Ch3, 2dc in same sp. (Ch1. 3dc in next ch3 sp, ch1, twice. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch3 corner sp. Ch1, 3dc in next ch3sp, 3 times. Ch1.) *3dc in next ch3 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 9: Slst in each of the next 2dc and into the next sp. Sc in same sp. (Ch3, sc in next ch1 sp. Ch3. Sc, ch3, sc in next ch2 corner sp. Ch3, sc in next ch1 sp, 3 times. Ch3.) *Sc in next ch1 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from around. Join w/slst to first sc. fasten off color 3.

RND 10: Join color 1 in next ch3 sp. Bl in same ch3 sp. (Ch2, bl in next ch3 sp, twice. Ch2. Bl, ch3, bl in next ch3 sp, 5 times. Ch2.) *Bl in next ch3 sp. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first bl.

RND 11: Ch3. (3dc in next ch2 sp, dc in next bl, 3 times. 3dc, ch2, 3dc in next ch3 sp. Dc in next bl, 3dc in next ch2 sp, 6 times.) *Dc in next bl. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 12: Ch2. Hdc in each dc around and work 2hdc, ch2, hdc in each of the 4 ch2 corner spaces. When you get back to where you started, join w/slst to top of ch2. Fasten off and weave all ends into back of work.
