The Details

The finished measurements are approximately 14x14cm/5.5×5.5″.

Notes:

  1. The panels are worked from the bottom up in rows.
  2. The heart portion of the square is worked in faux fur yarn using tapestry crochet. When changing colours, insert your hook into the the last stitch of colour ‘A’, YO and pull up a loop, YO with colour B and complete the stitch, continue with colour ‘B’. You do not need to cut your yarn or use multiple bobbins. Instead, you can carry the unused worsted weight yarn inside the stitches of the faux fur yarn (the fur yarn easily hides it!). In rows 9 and 10, you do not need to cut the faux fur yarn when working the two bumps of the heart; simply carry the faux fur yarn across the back/wrong side of the square. The heart on the back of the square will be a little less defined than the one on the front but it’s much easier than joining new fur yarn and you will have less ends to weave;
  3. When working an odd-numbered row (1, 3, 5, etc) the front/right side of the square will be facing you. When working an even-numbered row, (2, 4, 6, etc) the back/wrong side of the square will be facing you. Always drop the fur yarn on the back/wrong side;
  4. All worsted weight stitches are worked in hdc and all faux fur stitches of the heart are worked in sc. This is to compensate for the bulk of the faux fur yarn.
  5. Ch 1 at the end of each row does not count as a stitch.
  6. When working the sc sts around the edge at the end, work (sc, ch 2, sc) into each corner.

Materials:

  • 6mm hook for main
  • Any worsted weight (size 4) yarn in colour of choice for main colour (MC) (15g);
