RND 2: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. 2dc in each st around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. (20dc)

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. 2dc in next dc. Ch2. *2dc in next dc. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. 2dc in next dc. Ch2. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 4: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 6 dc. (2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 corner sp.) *Dc in each of the next 7 dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3.

RND 5: Ch3. Dc in each of the next 8dc. (2dc, ch2, 2dc in next ch2 corner sp. Dc in each of the next 2dc.) *Dc in each of the next 9dc. Rep bet () once. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to top of ch3. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

Creating the Star

RND 1 and 2: With white, repeat as RNDs 1 and 2 of Square.

RND 3: Ch3, dc in same st as slst. Dc in each of the next 3 dc. Ch2. Sc in same st as last dc. *Sc in next dc. Ch2. Dc in same st as sc. Dc in each of the next 3dc. Ch2. Sc in same st as last dc. Rep from * around. Join w/slst to first ch of ch3. Do not fasten off. You just made 5 point bases. Remember this for working the points.

Now you will start working on the points.

Point 1: Ch3, work a 3 double Treble Cluster. Ch1 and fasten off.

Points 2-5: Join thread to first dc of next point base. Ch3. 3dtr Cluster. Ch1. Fasten off. Weave all ends into back of work.

Stitching the Star to the Square

Step 1: Lay the star on the back and position it the way you want, making sure to line up the center circles. Use the white thread and tapestry needle to work a running stitch around the outer perimeter of RND 2, going through both layers at the same time. Weave ends in back.

Securing Points to Square: Join white thread to any dc on last round of square. Ch1. Work a sc in each st around and 3 sc in each ch2 corner sp around, catching the 5 points randomly at 5 of your stitches around, to secure them to this round to give the star a "dancing" effect. When you get back to where you started, join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

Final Round: Join red to any stitch on last round. Ch1. Sc in each st around while working 2sc in the 2nd sc of the 3 scs in each corner. When you get back to where you started, join w/slst to first sc. Fasten off and weave ends into back of work.

Finishing Touches

Glue Magnet Sheet to Back: Cut your magnet sheet to just fit the back side of your work so it does not show on the front. Use either hot glue or E-6000 to glue it in place. Allow to dry before using.

Notes:

1. I used Bernat Handicrafter Acrylic Crochet Thread Size 5 in White, Royal Blue, and Perfect Red. You could use size 10 crochet cotton and a size 7 steel crochet hook to get the same result.
