With their tiny stitches and endearing details, each voodoo doll can become a unique expression of your personality and style.

Whether you're a seasoned crocheter or just starting out, crafting these charming creations is a fun and rewarding experience that is sure to bring a smile to your face and those around you. So grab your yarn and hook, and let your imagination run wild as you bring these enchanting little dolls to life!

Materials

  • Ww yarn in any color you like, plus a small bit of contrasting yarn for stitches (I used Red Heart Super Saver)
  • Keyring (optional)
  • Fiberfill
  • D hook (a larger hook just means a bigger Voodood)
  • Scissors
  • Needle (to weave in ends/create features)
  • Wool/felting needles for heart (this can be embroidered if desired)
  • Optional: small button for eye

Abbreviations

  • Ch: chain
  • Mr: magic ring
  • Sk: skip
  • Sl st: slip stitch
  • Sc: single crochet
  • Sc2tog: single crochet 2 sts together; decrease
  • FLO: front loop only
  • F.o.: finish off

Notes

All terms are in American terminology. If the pattern reads "sc, sc2tog, 2sc," it should be interpreted as "single crochet, single crochet 2 stitches together, 2 single crochet in the next stitch." Directions are to be repeated to the end of the row/round unless noted otherwise. As with any pattern, be sure to read through it once before beginning, and don’t forget to mark your rounds! (I use a bit of contrasting yarn).

Begin

Arms (x2)

  1. MR 4sc (4)
  2. Rounds 2-5: sc (4)
  3. Flatten arm and sc x1 through both halves closing opening. F.o.

Legs (x2)

  1. MR sc6 (6)
  2. Rounds 2-5: sc (6) f.o. first leg set to side, begin at round 1 again.
  3. 6- We will be connecting the legs now- Sc, sc6 around leg 1, sc 5 in leg 2 to round beginning (12)
  4. 7-10: sc (12) stuff firmly as you progress.
  5. 11- sc, sc2tog (8)
  6. 12- We will be attaching the arms in this round by sc through arm and into body at the same time; mark sides for arms - mine worked like this - sc3, sc through arm, sc3, sc through arm (8)
  7. 13- sc2, sc2tog (6)
  8. 14- flo- 2sc (12)
  9. 15- sc, 2sc (18)
  10. 16-19: sc (18)
  11. 20- sc, sc2tog (12)
  12. 21- sc2tog (6); if you want to make the keychain, continue. If not, f.o. close opening and weave in end.
  13. 22- sk st, sc (3)
  14. Ch9 - cut a long end but do NOT lose ch loop, slide keyring onto ch, working over the keyring- sl st in 4th ch from hook, sl st 5, f.o. Close any opening and weave in end.

Finishing

Felt a heart onto the chest or embroider. Use a bit of contrasting yarn to create facial features and stitches. If you want a button for an eye or a cool bead, apply that now. Make your Voodood whatever you want! Let your imagination run wild!
