Supplies

  • Cotton yarn in worsted weight (I used Sugar ‘n Cream in Indigo)
  • 4 mm hook
  • Small button 1/2 inch in width

Terms

  • mc – Magic Circle
  • sc – Single Crochet
  • inc – Increase

Pattern

  1. 5sc in mc – 5
  2. inc around – 10
  3. (sc, inc) 5x – 15
  4. (sc 2, inc) 5x – 20
  5. Rows 5 – 9: sc around – 20 each row
  6. 10. ch 1, turn; sc 20 – 20
  7. Rows 11 – 15: repeat row #10 – 20 each row
  8. * Continue in rounds now, join the two sides
  9. Rows 16 – 23: sc around – 20 each row
  10. 24. sc 10, ch 1, turn
  11. 25. sc 4, ch 1, turn – 4
  12. Rows 26 – 35: (or for as many rows as you want. You can make it shorter or longer depending on your leash) repeat row #25
  13. 36. ch 1, turn, sc, chain 2, skip next 2 stitches, sc
  14. 37. ch 1, turn, sc, sc 2 into the chain, sc – 40
  15. 38. ch 1, turn, sc 4 – 4

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Additional Finishing Touches

  • * Optional: slip stitch up the sides of the strap to clean the edges.
  • * Sew button on the opposite side of the strap; I have mine between the 3rd and 4th row from the top.
  • * Run a piece of yarn through the top of the holder; I did it between the first and second row. Weave it between the stitches to make a drawstring. Knot the string ends together to create a loop. If you look in the photo, you can see the knot under the leash; this is how you’ll pull it closed and open it to refill!
