Note: This hat is crocheted continuously, so you will not join each round or chain at the beginning of the next. Be sure to mark the first stitch in each round, so you don’t lose your place.

Pattern Instructions

Heart placement for this pattern is designed to go on the side of the head. If you prefer to have the heart placed at the front of the head, add 10 SC to the beginning of each round for Rounds 13-24.

Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around

Round 3: *SC in the first stitch, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 4: *SC in each of the first two stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 5: *SC in each of the first three stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 6: *SC in each of the first four stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 7: *SC in each of the first five stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 8: *SC in each of the first six stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 9: *SC in each of the first seven stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around

Round 10: *SC in each of the first eight stitches, 2 SC in next stitch, repeat from * around (50 SC total)

Rounds 11-12: 1 SC in each stitch around

Round 13: 1 SC in each of the first 8 stitches, switch to Color B (Accent Color), SC in each of the next 3 stitches, switch back to the main color and SC in each of the next 3 stitches, using Color B, SC in each of the next three, switch back to the main color and SC in each remaining stitch around

Round 14: With the Main color, SC in each of the first 7 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 5 stitches. With the main color, SC in the next stitch. With Color B, SC in each of the next 5 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches around.

Rounds 15-18: With the main color, SC in each of the first 6 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 13 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 19: With the main color, SC in each of the first 7 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 11 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 20: With the main color, SC in each of the first 8 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 9 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 21: With the main color, SC in each of the first 9 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 7 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 22: With the main color, SC in each of the first 10 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 5 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 23: With the main color, SC in each of the first 11 stitches. With Color B, SC in each of the next 3 stitches. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Round 24: With the main color, SC in each of the first 12 stitches. With Color B, SC in the next stitch. With the main color, SC in each of the remaining stitches.

Rounds 25-26: With the main color, SC in each stitch around

Rounds 27-28: With Color B, SC in each stitch around. Finish off.

Optional: Using Color B and a tapestry needle, stitch a border around the heart to clarify the border.
