Gauge

14 sts = 4” (10 cm); 8 rows = 3” (7.6 cm) in dc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Note

Leave long end of yarn at end of each piece to sew in place on pillow.

Special Abbreviation

hdc dec = [yarn over and draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 5 loops on hook.

sc dec = [draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Cover (Make 2)

With D, ch 40.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; turn – 39 sc.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), skip first st, dc in each st across; turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, skip first dc (counts as first slip st), * dc in next dc, slip st in next dc; repeat from * across working last slip st in top of ch-3; turn.

Rows 4-25: Repeat Rows 2 and 3.

Row 26: Repeat Row 2.

Row 27: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off.

Center

With C, ch 4.

Round 1: 11 Dc in 4th ch from hook; join with a slip st in top of ch-4.

Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in same st as joining and in each st around; join with a slip st in back loop of first sc – 24 sc.

Rounds 3-5: Ch 1, working in back loops only sc in each sc around; join in back loop of first sc.

Round 6: Ch 1, working in back loops only [sc dec] 12 times – 12 sc. Fasten off.

Round 7: Join D with sc in any front loop of Round 5, sc in next 4 front loops, 2 sc in next front loop, [sc in next 5 front loops, 2 sc in next front loop] 3 times; join – 28 sc. Fasten off.
