Joining with Single Crochet

When instructed to join with sc, begin with a slip knot on the hook, insert the hook in the stitch or space indicated, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook.

Shell: (2dc, tr, ch1, tr, 2dc) in same stitch or space indicated.

Coaster Instructions

Round 1

(Right Side) With Blue, ch4, join with slst to first ch to form a ring; ch3 (counts as first dc, now and throughout), 11 dc in ring; join with slst to first dc (3rd ch of ch-3). (12 dc)

Round 2

Ch3, dc in same stitch as joining, [2dc in next dc] around; join as before. (24 dc)

Round 3

Ch1, sc in same stitch as joining, sc in each of next 2 dc, 2sc in next dc, [sc in each of next 2 dc, 2sc in next dc] around; join with slst to first sc. (30 sc) Finish off and weave in ends.

Round 4

With right side facing, join Red with slst to any sc, [skip next 2 sc, shell in next sc, skip next 2 sc, slst in next sc] around. (5 shells) Finish off and weave in ends.

Round 5

With right side facing, join White with sc over any slst (in same sc that slst was worked in on Round 3), *[ch1, sc in next stitch] 3 times, ch1, (sc, ch2, sc) in next ch-1 sp, [ch1, sc in next stitch] 3 times, ch1, sc over next slst into same sc on Round 3; repeat from * around, omitting last sc on final repeat; join with slst to first sc. Finish off and weave in ends.
