How to Knit a Stunning Bunting with Butterfly and Honeycomb Patterns

Materials Needed

You'll need:

• 4 skeins of baby yarn;
• Knitting needles 4 mm;
• Circle knitting needles 4 mm;
• Small buttons - 16 pcs;
• Markers.

Instructions

This bunting is made with two simple patterns. The first one is the honeycomb, made in the following way:

Honeycomb Pattern

1st, 3rd rows: all knit stitches;

2nd row: 1 knit stitch, slip 1 purl, 1 yarn over, 1 knit stitch;

4th row: 2 knit stitches, slip 1 purl, 1 yarn over, 1 knit stitch.

Repeat from the beginning of work.

Butterfly Pattern

Nice butterfly pattern:

1st, 3rd rows: all knit stitches;

2nd and all the even rows: all purls;

5th row: 2 knit stitches, knit 2 knit stitches, don't transfer them from the left-hand needle: 1 knit stitch, 1 knit stitch, insert the knitting needle in the 2nd stitch, then in the 1st stitch, knit 1st stitch through the 2nd stitch, after that knit 1st stitch as knit stitch.

7th row: 2 knit stitches, insert the knitting needle in the 2nd stitch, then in the 1st, knit 1st stitch through the 2nd stitch, make 1st stitch as knit stitch, 2 knit stitches, don't transfer them from the left-hand needle: 1 knit stitch, 1 knit stitch.

9th, 11th rows: all knit stitches;

13th row: 2 knit stitches, * 4 knit stitches, knit 2 knit stitches, don't transfer them from the left-hand needle: 1 knit stitch, 1 knit stitch, insert the knitting needle in the 2nd stitch, then in the 1st stitch, knit 1st stitch through the 2nd stitch, make 1st stitch as knit stitch, 2 knit stitches;

15th row: 2 knit stitches, 4 knit stitches, insert the knitting needle in the 2nd stitch, then in the 1st stitch, knit 1st stitch through the 2nd stitch, make 1st stitch as knit stitch, 2 knit stitches, don't transfer from the left-hand needle, 1 knit stitch, 1 knit stitch.

16th row: all purls.

Knitting the Bunting

Front

Cast on 87 stitches and knit 16 rows with the butterfly pattern. Make decreases in the next row: 21 knit stitches, knit 2 together, 16-20 knit stitches. Make 50 cm with the butterfly pattern. Bind off the stitches.

Back

Cast on 100 stitches and knit 50 cm with the butterfly pattern. Place markers on the edges of your work. Make the hood together with the back part. Knit straight for 18 cm. Fold the hood in half and bind off the stitches with an auxiliary needle. Bind off all the stitches.

Plackets

For making plackets, lift 116 stitches from the right side to the placed marker and add 139 stitches from the left side, you should get 371 stitches. Make 8 rows with the honeycomb pattern. Make holes for buttons, make 7 more rows, and bind off the stitches. Sew the buttons to the front plackets.
