Assembly

First Loop for Strap

With RS of circles facing out, attach yarn with a slip stitch in front circle (left-handed crocheters: back circle).

Ch 8, sl st to back circle (left-handed crocheters: front circle).

Sl st into next dc “down” side of the circle; turn.

Sc in each of the 8 chs, sl st to the next dc below where yarn was attached. Loop made.

Do not fasten off.

Joining Circles

Sl st through the next dc below the strap loop in both circles. Circles are now joined.

Working through both circles at the same time, ch 3, dc in next dc, dc in each of the next 4 dc, 2 dc in next dc, [dc in each of the next 6 dc, 2 dc in next dc] 10 times. (88 dc)

Do not fasten off.

Second Loop for Strap

Ch 3, sl st into the next dc in the front circle (left-handed crocheters: back circle).

Ch 8, sl st to the back circle (left-handed crocheters: front circle).

Sl st into the next dc “up” side of the circle; turn.

Sc in each of the 8 chs, sl st to the next dc above where the yarn ch began. Loop made.

Fasten off.

Straps

Foundation Row:

Ch 2.

Row 1:

Sc in the second ch from hook; rotate stitch clockwise.

Row 2:

Insert hook under the loop at “back” of stitch where two “V”s point to. Work 1 sc under this loop; rotate stitch clockwise.

Row 3 and Beyond:

Insert hook under two loops at “back” of stitch where two “V”s point to. Work 1 sc under these loops; rotate stitch clockwise.

Rep Row 3 until the cord measures 55”. The cord is quite sturdy, but will stretch a bit once worn.

Fasten off and use a tapestry needle to weave in ends of cords.

Link straps at the top of the shoulder, thread each through one strap loop, and tie in a square knot. See photo in the blog post above. (Both tails of Strap A are tied together and both tails of Strap B are tied together.)

Adding a Closure

To add a closure to the top of the purse, choose to either crochet the button described below or find a wooden, bone, or plastic button you prefer.

Make a Crochet Button:

Foundation Round:

Ch 5, sl st to the first ch to form a circle.

Round 1:

Ch 1, 11 sc in the circle, sl st to the first sc to join. Fasten off, leaving a 12” tail to sew the button to the purse.

Sew the button of choice to whichever side you’d like to designate the front of the purse, as pictured in the photo in the blog post above.

Adding Loop:

Join yarn in the center top of the “back” circle.

Ch 8 (or however many chains it takes to comfortably wrap around the button), sl st to dc in the center top of the back circle. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Fringe

To quickly cut fringe pieces of all the same length, wrap yarn around a book that is approximately 8-9” tall. Cut at one end.

Beginning in any dc toward the bottom of the purse, insert hook from the top down and grab seven strands of fringe. Pull the fringe partially up to the top of the purse. Insert fingers through the resulting loop of fringe and pull fringe tails through the loop.

Repeat in every other dc around the bottom of the purse. Trim as desired.
