Materials

  • Worsted weight cotton yarn color A = same color as towel, color B = hair color, color C = white or natural
  • Crochet hook size G
  • Colored kitchen towel
  • Two 2” lucite rings
  • One 2 1/8” velour powderpuff
  • Two 4mm black beads for eyes
  • Pink embroidery floss
  • Powder blush
  • Small artist’s paintbrush
  • Hot glue
  • 1” Lucite ring
  • Small silk flower

Instructions

To Work Loop Stitch

Insert hook in indicated stitch, wrap yarn twice around index finger holding work, insert hook into two loops formed by finger, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both remaining loops on hook.

Head

Stack one lucite ring on top of the other. With color C, work 15 single crochet (sc) around both rings, then 20 sc around the top ring only; join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc; turn. (The unworked half ring is the back.)

Collar

Row 1: Slip stitch in each of the first 5 sc, chain 3 to count as the first double crochet (dc), double crochet in each of the next 11 sc, leaving the remainder of stitches unworked; chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Single crochet in the first dc, (chain 3, single crochet in the next dc) 11 times. Fasten off.

Hair

Row 1: From the back, join color B with a slip stitch in the first unworked sc on head, chain 1, loop stitch in the same stitch, loop stitch in each of the next 18 unworked sc, loop stitch in each of the next 4 slip stitches; fasten off. (23 loop stitches)

Row 2: From the back, join color B with a slip stitch in the first loop stitch on row 1, chain 1, loop stitch in the same stitch, loop stitch in each loop stitch across; fasten off. (23 loop stitches)

Arms

With color A, chain 37

Row 1: Double crochet in the 4th chain from hook and in each of the next 13 chains, single crochet in each of the next 5 chains, double crochet in each of the last 15 chains; chain 3, turn.

Rows 2-3: Skip first double crochet, double crochet in each of the next 14 dc, single crochet in each of the next 5 sc, double crochet in each of the last 15 dc; chain 1, turn.

Row 4: Fold arms lengthwise to form a tube, matching stitches of row 3 to foundation chain, slip stitch through both the first 15 dc of row 3 AND the foundation chain to join, chain 3, matching stitches of row 3 to foundation chain, slip stitch through both the last 15 dc of row 3 AND the foundation chain to join.

Fasten off.

Skirt Ruffle (Towel Trim)

With color C, make a chain the same length as the width of your towel, then chain 2 more

Row 1: Double crochet in the 4th chain from hook and in each chain across; chain 1, turn.

Row 2: Single crochet in the first dc, (chain 3, single crochet in the next dc) across. Fasten off. Sew to the bottom hem of the towel.

Hair Bow

With color A, chain 12, slip stitch in the 8th chain from hook, chain 8, slip stitch in the 8th chain from hook, chain 4, fasten off.

Flower Doily

With color C, chain 4; join with a slip stitch to form a ring.

Round 1: Chain 3 to count as the first double crochet, work 11 more double crochet in the ring; join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain 3.

Round 2: Chain 1, single crochet in the same stitch as joining, (chain 3, single crochet in the next dc) 11 times, chain 3, join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet. Hot glue flower to flower doily.

Face

Sew black beads to powder puff for eyes. Embroider mouth with embroidery floss. Using artist’s brush, apply a little powdered blush to cheeks; blend well.

Assembly
