Complete Guide to Knitting a Stylish Zigzag Pattern Garment: Materials, Instructions, and Tips

You’ll Need:

700 (800)g of yellow sectional coloring Organico Print yarn (100% cotton; 90m/50g);

Knitting needles 4.5.

Size:

S (L-XL).

Used Patterns

Zigzags Pattern: The quantity of stitches is multiple of 12 + 3 + 2 selvage stitches. Work according to the scheme, where only RS rows are stated, making WS rows as stitches face, yarn overs as purls.

Start with 1 selvage stitch and stitches before pattern repeat, pattern repeat, finish with stitches after pattern repeat, 1 selvage stitch. Make rows 1-20 once, then repeat rows 3-20.

1 x 1 rib.

Stitches Control:

19.5 stitches x 24.5 rows = 10 x 10 cm;

Rib: 5 stitches + 1 selvage stitch = 2 cm.

Instructions

Back

Cast on 101 (125) stitches and work with zigzags pattern. In 56 cm = 138 rows (50 cm = 122 rows) from the setup row, bind off 12 stitches from both sides for armholes = 77 (101) stitches. In 74.5 cm = 182 rows from the setup row, bind off the central 15 (23) stitches for neck-hole and finish both sides separately. For smooth rounding, bind off 2 x 5 stitches in every 2nd row from inwards. At the same time, in 75 cm = 184 rows from the setup row, bind off 6 (8) stitches from both sides for shoulder chamfers and 3 x 5 (7) stitches in every 2nd row. Finish your work in 77.5 cm = 190 rows from the setup row.

Left Front

Cast on 58 (70) stitches and work in the following way: 1 selvage stitch, 51 (63) stitches of zigzags pattern, and 5 stitches of rib + 1 selvage stitch for placket. In 55.5 cm = 136 rows from the setup row, decrease 1 stitch for neck-hole chamfer; for this, make 1 stitch before placket with the 1st stitch of placket as knit2tog. Repeat this decrease 17 times in every 2nd and 4th rows by turn (21 times in every 2nd row). At the same time, make arm-hole and shoulder chamfer from the right side in the same way as for back. In 77.5 cm = 190 rows from the setup row, leave the remaining 7 stitches of placket.

Right Front

Work symmetrically to the left front; for neck-hole chamfer decreases, make the last stitch of placket together with the next stitch as broaching.

Sleeves

Cast on 53 (65) stitches and work with the zigzags pattern. In 22 cm = 54 rows from the setup row, increase 1 stitch from both sides for sleeve chamfers and 10 x 1 stitch in every 6th row (14 x 1 stitch in every 4th row and 2 x 1 stitch in every 2nd row) = 75 (99) stitches, including the increased stitches in the pattern. In 52 cm = 128 rows from the setup row, bind off all stitches.

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. Transfer the previously left 7 stitches of plackets and work with rib between selvage stitches. In 10 (12) cm from shoulder, bind off all stitches. Connect bound-off edges of plackets with Kitchener's stitch and sew placket to the back neck-hole. Sew up the sleeves and make side and sleeve seams.
