Instructions
Begin with a mc.
Round 1
Pull up a long loop to get the height for your first puff stitch. *{Puff, puff, ch 1} repeat from * 3 more times, ch 1 again (you’ll have the ch to close the puff + 2 chs), skip the long loop of the first puff stitch and join with a slip stitch to the stitch on top of the puff stitch, turn. (20 stitches)
Round 2
Pull up a long loop, in ch 1 space puff stitch, double crochet in next 3 stitches *{(puff, ch 1, puff) all in next space created by the corner puff + ch 1, dc in next 3 sts} (you might have to squish the (puff, ch 1, puff stitches) over to get into the top of the first puff stitch after the corner), repeat from * 2 more times, (puff, ch 1) in same ch 1 space as first puff stitch, slip stitch to long loop of first puff stitch, turn. (32 stitches)
Round 3
Pull up a long loop, in ch 1 space puff stitch, double crochet in next 6 stitches *{(puff, ch 1, puff) all in next space created by the corner puff + ch 1, dc in next 6 stitches} (you might have to squish the (puff, ch 1, puff stitches) over to get into the top of the first puff stitch after the corner), repeat from * 2 more times, (puff, ch 1) in same ch 1 space as first puff stitch, slip stitch to long loop of first puff stitch, turn. (44 stitches)
Round 4
Pull up a long loop, in ch 1 space puff stitch, double crochet in next 9 stitches *{(puff, ch 1, puff) all in next space created by the corner puff + ch 1, dc in next 9 stitches} (you might have to squish the (puff, ch 1, puff stitches) over to get into the top of the first puff stitch after the corner), repeat from * 2 more times, (puff, ch 1) in same ch 1 space as first puff stitch, slip stitch to long loop of first puff stitch, turn. (56 stitches)
Repeat Rounds 5-32
Pull up a long loop, in same ch 1 space puff stitch, *{double crochet in top of next puff stitch and in each stitch across until next corner stitches, *{(puff, ch 1, puff) all in corner} repeat from * 3 more times, (puff, ch 1) in same ch 1 space as first puff stitch, slip stitch to long loop of first puff stitch, turn. Cut yarn. (140 stitches)
Border
Ch 1, in same stitch single crochet & half double crochet, skip next stitch, *{in next stitch single crochet & half double crochet, skip next stitch} repeat from * around, at each corner place two sets of single crochet & half double crochet. As you approach the corners you may need to skip 2 stitches, as I did here, join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
