Special Stitch Tutorial
Lemon Peel Stitch – The lemon peel stitch starts with an odd number of chains. It is made by alternating SC and DC stitches, always starting with a SC and ending on a DC.
Pattern Instructions
With yarn colour A, CH 15.
Row 1
Into the second CH from your hook, place 1 SC followed by 1 DC in the next stitch. Repeat this stitch sequence of 1 SC then 1 DC across the row, ending with a DC stitch. CH 1 and turn.
(7 SC stitches, 7 DC stitches = 14 stitches)
Rows 2-10
Into the first stitch, place 1 SC followed by 1 DC in the next stitch. Repeat this stitch sequence of 1 SC then 1 DC across the row, ending with a DC stitch. CH 1 and turn for all rows except row 10. After completing row 10, fasten off.
(7 SC stitches, 7 DC stitches = 14 stitches)
Edging
(I find fastening off and re-joining the yarn in the middle of an edge provides a neater finish for the border)
Round 1
With yarn colour A, join into the middle of any edge with a SS and CH 1 (represents 1 SC). Evenly place 1 SC around all edges and make 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC into each corner space. SS into the beginning CH 1, fasten off.
Round 2
Join yarn colour B into the middle of any edge with a SS and CH 1 (represents 1 SC). Evenly place 1 SC around all edges and make 1 SC, CH 2, 1 SC into each CH 2 corner space. SS into the beginning CH 1, fasten off and weave in all ends. [Photo B]
